Liquid crystal display device and its driving method.

Abstract

A liquid crystal display device and its driving method of the present invention have a voltage application scheme to control a stable condition of a gap between pixels, by applying a voltage to a liquid crystal panel (1) in which ferroelectric liquid crystal is sandwiched between substrates (2, 3) each having a plurality of electrodes (4, 5). It is possible to implement the black matrix conditions with a simple configuration without a light shielding layer by controlling the stable condition of the gap, to display a grey tone with a combination of pixels and a gap, or to raise the opening ratio by making the condition between adjacent pixels and a gap the same condition.

  1. 1
A liquid crystal display device comprising a liquid crystal panel in which a ferroelectric liquid crystal is sandwiched between upper and lower substrates each having a plurality of electrodes to form a plurality of pixels, and means for applying predetermined voltage to adjacent pixels for switching a stable condition of a gap between the adjacent pixels.
  2. 8
A driving method for driving a liquid crystal device, in which a ferroelectric liquid crystal is sandwiched between uppor and lower substrates each having a plurality of electrodes to form a plurality of pixels, wherein a predetermined voltage having voltage and pulse width sufficiently enough to switch a stable condition of a gap between adjacent pixels in said plurality of pixels is applied to at least one pixel of said adjacent pixels.
