  1. 1
A scanner for reading machine-readable code on an object, comprising scanning means (10-38) for repetitively scanning the code and providing scan signals that are representations of the scans through the code, each scan signal including at least a code fragment, data processing means (42-84) for receiving and storing the scan signals and identifying subintervals within respective code fragments, said data processing means (42-84), comprising code reconstruction means (42) for reconstructing said code from the code fragments, characterised in that:the data processing means (42-84) is adapted to associate each code fragment with a so-called label position value indicative of the position of the code fragment within the respective scan;in that the data processing means (42-84) includes means (48) for receiving and storing the scan signals and the associated label position values;and in that said code reconstruction means (42) is adapted to compare the label position values from the scan signals and to identify registered, matching subintervals in the fragments of the compared signals associated with identical or nearly identical label position values and to combine these identified fragments of registered matching subintervals into an extended code fragment.
  2. 23
A method for reading machine-readable code on an object, comprising the steps of:repetitively scanning said code and obtaining scan signals that are representations of the scans through said code, each scan signal including at least a code fragment, storing said scan signals;identifying subintervals within the respective code fragments;and reconstructing said code from said code fragments;characterised in that: said step of repetitively scanning said code and obtaining scan signals includes the step of obtaining a so-called label position value associated with each said code fragment and indicative of the position of the code fragment within the respective scan;said step of storing said scan signals includes storing said associated label position values;and said step of reconstructing said code comprises the steps of comparing the label position values from the scan signals and identifying registered, matching subintervals in the fragments of the compared signals associated with identical or nearly identical label position values and combining these identified fragments of registered matching subintervals into an extended code fragment.
