EP0351384A2

An instrument for the measurement of the cavitation or ebullition rate in a liquid.

Abstract

An instrument for the measurement of the cavitation or ebullition rate that by means of the suitable processing of the vibrations produced by said phenomena allow to detect their presence and/or to operate a device either cavitating or boiling without giving origin to said phenomena.

  1. 1
An instrument for the measurement of the cavitation or ebullition rate, characterized in that it comprises:an accelerometer fastened to the vessel containing the liquid to be controlled;amplification and filtering means, electrically connected to said accelerometer, for processing the signal on the output of this latter and providing on its output a signal containing the information of interest;discriminating means, electrically connected to said amplification and filtering means, for isolating from said signal the information of interest;first display means, electrically connected to said discriminating means;means connected to said amplification and filtering means, for deriving from said signal its r.m.s. value averaged in time and for providing on the output a signal indicating said r.m.s. value;second display means, electrically connected to said r.m.s. means, whereby said second display means provides on its output the information relating to the power of the phenomenon, while said first display means provides on its output the information about a possible mechanical noise source superposed to the phenomenon of interest.
  2. 11
An instrument for the measurement of the cavitation or ebullition rate, characterized in that it comprises:an accelerometer fastened to the vessel containing the liquid to be controlled;amplification and filtering means connected to said accelerometer for processing the signal on the output of the latter, and to provide on its output a signal containing the information of interest;discriminating means, electrically connected to said amplification and filtering means for isolating from said signal the number of flashes in the unit of time;comparator means having two predetermined limit values;actuation means controlled by said comparator means, whereby if the lower limit value set on the comparator is trespassed, the actuator signals an alarm, while if the higher value is trespassed the actuator shuts off the plant.
