    A circuit for measuring the energy capacity of a battery (10) comprising detection means (15,17,20,24) for detecting a current flowing through the battery (10) and an integration circuit (22,23) for integrating an output of the detection means (15,17,20,24), the measuring circuit measuring the capacity of the battery (10) in accordance with an output of the integration circuit (22,23) characterized in that a circuit element (22,23) for determining an integration time constant of said integration circuit has a temperature characteristic which substantially compensates for a temperature characteristic in the energy capacity of said battery (10) and/or an age-variation characteristic which substantially compensates for an age-variation characteristic in the energy capacity of said battery (10).

    A circuit for measuring the capacity of a battery (10) according to Claim 1, characterized in that said circuit element (23) is a capacitive element.

    A circuit for measuring the capacity of a battery (10) according to Claim 2, wherein said detection means (15,17,20,24) comprises a resistor (17) serially connected to said battery (10), said integration circuit (22,23) causing said capacitive element (23) to be charged or discharged in accordance with a voltage across said resistor (17), and wherein said measuring circuit further comprises:comparison means (28) for comparing a voltage appearing across said capacitive element (23) with a predetermined value to cause said capacitive element (23) to be discharged or charged in accordance with a result of the comparison;and    counter means (31) for counting the charging-and-discharging cycles of said capacitive element (23).

    A circuit for measuring the capacity of a battery (10) according to Claim 2, wherein said detection means (15,20,24) comprises a semiconductor switching element (15) serially connected to said battery (10), said integration circuit (22,23') causing said capacitive element (23') to be charged or discharged in accordance with a voltage across said semiconductor switching element (15), and wherein said measuring circuit further comprises:comparison means (28) for comparing a voltage appearing across said capacitive element (23') with a predetermined value to cause said capacitive element (23') to be discharged or charged in accordance with a result of the comparison;and    counter means (31) for counting the charging-and-discharging cycles of said capacitive element (23').

    A circuit for measuring the capacity of a battery (10) according to Claim 1, characterized in that said circuit element (22) is a resistive element.

    A circuit for measuring the capacity of a battery (10) according to Claim 5 wherein said detection means comprises a resistor (17) serially connected to said battery (10), said integration circuit causing a capacitor (23) to be charged or discharged in accordance with a voltage across said resistor (17) via said resistive element (22), and wherein said measuring circuit further comprises:comparison means (28) for comparing a voltage appearing across said capacitor (23) with a predetermined value to cause said capacitor to be discharged or charged in accordance with a result of the comparison;and    counter means (31) for counting the charging-and-discharging cycles of said capacitor.

    A circuit for measuring the capacity of a battery (10) according to Claim 5 wherein said detection means comprises a semiconductor switching element (15) serially connected to said battery (10), said integration circuit causing said capacitor (23') to be charged or discharged via said resistive element (22) in accordance with a voltage across said semiconductor switching element (15), and wherein said measuring circuit further comprises:comparison means (28) for comparing a voltage appearing across said capacitor with a predetermined value to cause said capacitor (23') to be discharged or charged in accordance with a result of the comparison;and    counter means (31) for counting the charging-and-discharging cycles of said capacitor.
