An osteogenically active protein, having the sequence (H₂N)-Ala-Lys-Tyr-Asn-Lys-Ile-Lys-Ser-Arg-Gly-­Ile-Lys-Ala-Asn-Thr-Phe-Lys-Lys-Leu-His-­Asn-Leu-Ser-Phe-Leu-Tyr-Leu-Asp-His-Asn-­Ala-Leu-Glu-Ser-Val-Pro-Leu-Asn-Leu-Pro-­Glu-Ser-Leu-Arg-Val-Ile-His-Leu-Gln-Phe-­Asn-Asn-Ile-Thr-Ser-Ile-Thr-Asp-Asp-Thr-­Phe-Cys-Lys-Ala-Asn-Asp-Thr-Ser-Tyr-Ile-­Arg-Asp-Arg-Ile-Glu-Glu-Ile-Arg-Leu-Glu-­Gly-Asn-Pro-Val-Ile-Leu-Gly-Lys-His-Pro-­Asn-Ser-Phe-Ile-Cys-Leu-Lys-Arg-Leu-Pro-­Ile-Gly-Ser-Tyr-Ile-Asp-(COOH), and substantially pure polypeptides that are substantially equivalent and substantially homologous thereto is disclosed. Pharmaceutical compositions containing these polypeptides and methods to use them are also disclosed.
