Optical recording and reproducing system using optical recording medium.

Abstract

An optical recording and reproducing system which makes recording and reproduction of information by radiating an optical spot to a disk-like optical recording medium (2), and makes recording and reproduction of the information by use of part of the optical intensity distribution due to the interference of diffracted light distribution from the recording medium (2) resulting from the localized characteristic change of the recording medium (2) such as the change of the real amplitude reflection coefficient due to the radiation of the optical spot. Further, a tracking error signal in said system is detected sample-wise from two kinds of pre-pit lines (7, 8) disposed in the tracking direction on the surface of the disk-like recording medium (2) so as to make tracking control for the recording and reproduction of the information.

8 claims: 4 independent, 4 dependent

  1. 1
In an optical recording and reproducing system in which an optical spot is radiated to an optical recording medium (2, 34) to make recording and reproduction of information via information pits (9), pre-pit lines (7, 8) are disposed in the tracking direction of said optical recording medium (2, 34) and said information is recorded and reproduced using said pre-pit lines (7, 8) as the guide for tracking control, wherein recording and reproduction are carried out by the information obtained by receiving part of the optical intensity distribution (14, 15, 16) due to the interference of diffracted light distribution from said recording medium (2, 34), that occurs due to a localized characteristic change of said recording medium due to the radiation of said optical spot, by an optical detector (5).
  2. 2
An optical recording and reproducing system as defined in claim 1, characterized in that tracking control for recording and reproduction of the information is carried out by detecting tracking error signals sample-wise from said pre-pit lines (7, 8) disposed in the tracking direction of said recording medium (2, 34) with a predetermined gap between them.
  3. 3
An optical recording and reproducing system as defined in claim 1, characterized in that the optical intensity distribution due to the interference of said diffracted light distribution is obtained on said optical detector (5), and recording and reproduction of the information are carried out by use of two areas (15, 16) on both sides among three areas (14, 15 16) distributed in the radial direction ε of a disk constituting said recording medium (2, 34) on said optical detector.
  4. 5
An optical recording and reproducing system according to any of claims 1 through 4, characterized in that the change of the real amplitude reflection coefficient of said recording medium (2, 34) is used as the localized characteristic change of said recording medium (2, 34).
