  1. 1
A circuit arrangement for storing pixel information and outputting signals representing said stored pixel information for display, comprising bit map memory means (71) having an array of row and column positions for storing said pixel information thereat, said bit map memory means having a plurality of data ports, first control means (99) connected to said bit map memory means for enabling the input and output of pixel and masking information to and from predetermined addresses in said bit map memory means, first shift register means (64) for shifting pixel information stored therein, said first shift register means having a plurality of data ports connected to said plurality of data ports of said bit map memory means by way of first gating means (145), a mask register means (57) for storing masking information, said mask register means being connected to said plurality of data ports of said bit map memory means by way of a second gating means (143), said first and second gating means being connected to a second control means (63) for controlling the gating of said first and second gating means, and said mask register means being connected to said first gating means,    wherein said second control means (63) is capable of outputting a first control signal to said second gating means (143) for enabling the transfer of masking information from said bit map memory means (71) to said mask register means (57) and a second control signal (149) to said first gating means (145) for enabling the transfer of pixel information from said bit map memory means (71) to said first shift register means (64), said masking register means (57) being capable of transferring said masking information to said first gating means (145) for masking predetermined bits of said pixel information.
  2. 2
The circuit arrangement as defined in claim 1, wherein said circuit arrangement is formed as an integrated chip.
  3. 3
The circuit arrangement as defined in claim 1, further comprising third gating means (153) connected between said first shift register means (64) and said first gating means (145), and second shift register means (64), for shifting pixel information stored therein, said second shift register means having a plurality of data ports connected to said plurality of data ports of said bit map memory means (71), by way of fourth gating means (155) and said first gating means (145) in series, wherein said second control means (63) is capable of outputting a third control signal (161) to said third gating means (153) for enabling the transfer of pixel information between said first shift register means (64) and said first gating means (145) and a fourth control signal (167) to said fourth gating means (155) for enabling the transfer of pixel information between said second shift register means (65) and said first gating means (145).
  4. 4
The circuit arrangement as defined in claim 3, further comprising third and fourth shift register means (67, 69) connected to said first gating means (145) by way of fifth and sixth gating means (157, 159) respectively.
  5. 5
The circuit arrangement as defined in claim 3, further comprising a first clocking means (103) connected to said first shift register means (64) for supplying clock signals at a first clocking predetermined rate and a second clocking means (239) connected to said second shift register means (65) for supplying clock signals at a second predetermined clocking rate different than said first predetermined clocking rate.
  6. 6
The circuit arrangement as defined in claim 5, wherein said first shift register means (64) has an output port for supplying pixel information in series to a first peripheral device (91) at a first rate dependent on said first predetermined clocking rate, and said second shift register means (65) has an output port for supplying pixel information in series to a second peripheral device (247) at a second rate dependent on said second predetermined clocking rate.
