A radio communication system comprising a base station (10) for transmitting a power saving signal and an information signal at periodic intervals, a repeater station (12, 13) operating alternately in an inactive interval and in an active interval in which the power saving and information signals are transmitted and including power saving means (43, 46, 48, 49) responsive to the power saving signal to cut off power supplies to major power consumptive components thereof during the inactive interval, and a plurality of terminal stations (14, 15) operating alternately in the inactive interval and in the active interval during which the terminal stations communicate through the repeater station (12, 13) with the base station (10), each of the terminal stations (14, 15) including power saving means (63, 71, 72, 73) responsive to the power saving signal relayed by the repeater station (12, 13) to cut off power supplies to major power consumptive components thereof during the inactive interval, characterized:in that the terminal stations (14, 15) include power saving disabling means (68, 74, 75) for transmitting a power saving disabling signal to the repeater station (12, 13) during the active interval in response to a request for call and disabling the power saving means (63),    in that the repeater station (12, 13) includes power saving disabling means (53) responsive to the power saving disabling signal from the terminal stations (14, 15) for disabling the power saving means (43) to thereby permit the information signal from the base station (10) to be relayed to the one of the terminal stations (14, 15) which has transmitted the power saving disabling signal, and,    in that each of the terminal stations (14, 15) includes means (70) responsive to the relayed information signal for transmitting a call request signal to the repeater station (12, 13) to allow it to be relayed to the base station (10).
