7 claims: 1 independent, 6 dependent

  1. 1
An electrophotographic photoconductive element including an electrically conductive substrate and a photoconductive layer containing a photoconductive phthalocyanine pigment characterized in that said pigment is a photoconductive titanylphthalocyanine pigment having fluorine substituted on at least one of its aromatic rings and is obtainable by the acid-pasting method comprising the steps of dissolving the pigment after extraction purification in cold concentrated mineral acid, pouring the solution into ice water to reprecipitate the phthalocyanine pigment and washing the obtained precipitate.
  2. 2
An electrophotographic photoconductive element according to Claim 1, said photoconductive layer comprising a charge generating layer and a charge transport layer, characterized in that the charge generating layer comprises the photoconductive titanyl phthalocyanine pigment and the charge transport layer contains a 4H-thiopyran-1,1-dioxide compound as an electron transport compound.
  3. 3
An electrophotographic photoconductive element according to Claim 2 characterized in that said electron transport compound is 4-dicyanomethylene-2,6-di-phenyl-4 H -thiopyran-1,1-dioxide.
  4. 4
An electrophotographic photoconductive element according to Claim 2 characterized in that said electron transport compound is 4-dicyanomethylene-2,6-di- m -tolyl-4 H -thiopyran-1,1-dioxide.
  5. 5
An electrophotographic photoconductive element according to Claim 1 characterized in that the photoconductive layer containing said titanyl phthalocyanine pigment is formed by dispersion coating.
  6. 6
An electrophotographic photoconductive element according to Claim 2 characterized in that the charge generating layer containing the titanyl phthalocyanine pigment is formed by dispersion coating.
  7. 7
A method of forming an electrophotographic image which comprises electrostatically charging the electrophotographic photoconductive element according to Claim 1, exposing the charged element to a pattern of near infrared radiation and developing the resulting charge pattern on the electrophotographic photoconductive element.
