  2. 5
A process for the preparation of a polymer as claimed in any one of claims 2 to 4 which process comprises homopolymerizing a benzocyclobutene of the general formula (I) where R₁ represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group and R₂ a group where n is 0 or an integer from 1 to 6, in the presence of a polyolefin coordination catalyst.
  3. 11
A copolymer as claimed in any one of claims 7 to 10 which comprises in the range of from 99.99 to 85 mol per cent C₂-C₈ alphamonoolefin and in the range of from 0.01 to 15 mol per cent benzocyclobutene of the general formula I.
  4. 14
A process for the preparation of a copolymer as claimed in any one of claims 7 to 13 which process comprises copolymerizing a C₂-C₈ alphamonoolefin and a benzocyclobutene of the general formula (I) where R₁ represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group and R₂ a group where n is 0 or an integer from 1 to 6, in the presence of a polyolefin coordination catalyst.
  5. 20
A copolymer as claimed in any one of claims 6 and 17 to 19 which is a random copolymer of a monoalkenyl arene and a third copolymerizable vinyl monomer.
  6. 24
A copolymer as claimed in any one of claims 6 to 13 and 17 to 23 wherein n in the general formula I is 0, 1 or 2.
  7. 27
A process for the preparation of a random copolymer of a benzocyclobutene of the general formula I and a monoalkenylarene as claimed in any one of claims 6 and 17 to 26, which process comprises copolymerizing a monoalkenylarene and a benzocyclobutene of the general formula I in the presence of a catalyst at a temperature in the range of from -80 °C to +150 °C.
  8. 34
The AB block copolymer of any one of claims 6 and 30 to 33.
  9. 35
The ABA block copolymer of any one of claims 6 and 30 to 33.
