Contrast agent, process for its preparation and its use for ultrasonic imaging.

Abstract

A contrast agent for ultrasonic imaging and a process for its preparation is disclosed. The contrast agent is an aqueous protein solution which is characterized in that it comprises microbubbles having a mean particle size of about 2 to 4 microns. The microbubbles are produced by subjecting the solution to light-frequency ultrasonic energy.

10 claims: 4 independent, 6 dependent

  1. 1
An aqueous protein solution characterised in that it comprises microbubbles having a mean particle size of about 2 to 4 microns.
  2. 4
A process for preparing an aqeous protein solution according any of claims 1 to 3, characterised in that the microbubbles are produced by subjecting the solution to high-frequency ultrasonic energy.
  3. 8
A process according to any of claims 4 to 7, characterised in that the microbubbles are further chemically denatured after subjecting them to high-frequency ultrasonic energy.
  4. 10
The use of an aqueous protein solution according to any of claims 1 to 9 as contrast agent in a method of ultrasonic imaging.
