EP0214747A2

Composite heat-insulating material containing a cellular urethane.

Abstract

A sheet of a polymer comprising at least 50 mol% of units of an olefin (e.g. polypropylene ) is coated on one surface with an aqueous solution or dispersion (A) 55 to 90% of a polymer comprising an olefin;(B) 1 to 30% of a copolymer of ethylene and acrylic acid; and(C) 10 to 30% of a polymer containing styrene units. The sheet optionally contains up to 65% of an inorganic fine powder. The adhesive layer adheres strongly to a cellular foamed polyurethane, to form a composite heat-insulating material without voids. The polymer sheet can be deep-drawn to shape, adhesive-coated, placed over the metal pressing of a refrigerator body or door, and the urethane components injected through a hole in the sheet so that the polyurethane is formed between the sheet and the metal pressing and is foamed and adhered insitu; the sheet can be a laminate having a lustrous outer surface layer.

  1. 1
A composite molded product comprising (a) a molding of a polymer comprising at least 50 mol% of units of an olefin and (b) a layer of a cellular foamed urethane, laminated together with an adhesive, characterised in that said adhesive comprises, by weight. (A) 55 to 90% of a polymer comprising an olefin;(B) 1 to 30% of a copolymer of ethylene and acrylic acid;and (C) 10 to 30% of a polymer containing styrene units.
  2. 2
A product as claimed in Claim 1, wherein the molding is a laminate of a propylene homopolymer as a surface layer and a substrate having a composition comprising by weight. (a) 20 to 80% of a polypropylene;(b) 10 to 80% of a polyethylene;(c) 0 to 35% of a polymer containing styrene units;and (d) 0 to 65% by weight of an inorganic fine powder.
  3. 3
A product as claimed in Claim 2, wherein the substrate has the composition comprising (a) 40 to 70% of the polypropylene;(b) 10 to 55% of the polyethylene;(c) 5 to 25% of the styrenic polymer;and (d) 5 to 55% by weight of an inorganic fine powder.
  4. 4
A product as claimed in Claim 1, 2 or 3, wherein the olefinic polymer in the adhesive composition is the same type as the olefinic polymer forming the molding.
  5. 5
A product as claimed in Claim 1, 2, 3 or 4, wherein the olefinic polymer in the adhesive composition is a polypropylene.
  6. 6
A product as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein the polypropylene is a propylene/ethylene block copolymer.
