PCM audio signal recording and/or reproducing apparatus.

Abstract

@ A PCM (pulse code modulated) audio signal recording and/or reproducing apparatus, operates with plural scanning periods, in which a rotary head (RD) scans obliquely a longitudinal direction of a tape (TP), and which are separated into a plurality of segment periods. A PCM audio signal is recorded on one channel of a plurality of track channels, formed by the alignment of respective segment tracks (34) which are scanned by the rotary head (RD) during the same segment period of each scanning period, and an identifying signal, indicative of the fact that the PCM audio signal is already recorded, is superimposed upon the PCM audio signal and recorded together on the track channel, whereby it becomes possible to easily identify whether or not the PCM audio signal is recorded on the plurality of track channels.

  1. 1
An apparatus for recording a plurality of PCM audio signals on a record medium, characterized in:a) audio signal processing means (2A, 4A) for converting said PCM audio signals into discrete and time-compressed digital signals;b) transducer means (H1, H3) responsive to said digital signals;c) transport means (RD) for establishing a relative scan of said transducer means (H1, H3) with respect to said record medium (TP), in a multiplicity of successive parallel tracks (34);d) switch means (SW1, SW2, SW3, SW4) selectively connecting said audio signal processing means (2A, 4A) to said transducer means (H1, H3);e) control means (9) for controlling said switch means (SW1, SW2, SW3, SW4) to supply said digital signals to said transducer means (H1, H3);f) pilot signal generating means (12) for generating a single frequency signal, which frequency is selected substantially lower than that of said tame-compressed digital audio signal;and g) mixing means (3A) for superimposing said time-compressed digital audio signal and said pilot signal, whereby, at the time of recording said PCM signal, an indication is recorded of the recording mode which is used, whereby the said recording mode may be recognized at the time of playback.
