EP0176291A2

Key telephone system with distributed control.

Abstract

A system for accessing a plurality of main exchange lines (C01, C02, C03) by a plurality of stations and for exchanging signals between the stations. Each station is provided with a self-sufficient microprocessor (10) which controls all the functions of the station. The microprocessors exchange control signals to indicate the status of each station and each line. A common intercom line is provided for both audio signals and control signals. Each station is assigned a unique address so that each station is able to dial up another station for intercom communication by generating the proper control signals. Each station is also provided with a switch matrix (120) for selectively accessing any of the lines, line status indicating means (32, 34, 36) and line holding means (52. 54, 56) which is automatically released when any station accesses the held line.

46 claims: 16 independent, 30 dependent

  1. 1
A communication system, comprising an intercom line, a plurality of stations, each connected to the intercom line and a plurality of telephone lines, which stations each include means for transmitting and receiving information, switch means for selectively accessing the transmitting and receiving means to one of the telephone lines and intercom line, and control means for generating and receiving control signals and for controlling the switch means, and means for exchanging the control signals between stations, whereby the system is distributively controlled by the control means in each station and there is no need for centralised control.
  2. 4
A system as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein the means for transmitting and receiving information comprises a telephone subset.
  3. 5
A system as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein each station is assigned a unique address and wherein the control means is adapted to call up a preselected station for intercom communication by generating an intercom control signal corresponding to the address of the selected station.
  4. 8
A system as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein each station further comprises paging means controlled by the control means, which paging means is adapted to reproduce paging signals generated by a station.
  5. 10
A system as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein each station further comprises holding means for holding an accessed telephone line, which holding means is controlled by the control means, which control means is adapted to release the holding means when the telephone line is accessed by any station.
  6. 12
A system as claimed in any one of the preceding claims further comprising indicating means for indicating the status of each line.
  7. 13
A system as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein the control means of each station is adapted to generate binary control signals, and each station further comprises means for converting the binary signals to PCM control signals.
  8. 15
A system as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein the information transmitted and received is an audio range.
  9. 16
A station for selectively exchanging signals on several telephone lines and an intercom line, comprising a telephone subset, a microprocessor, and switch means for selectively accessing the telephone subset to the telephone and intercom lines, the switch means being activated by the microprocessor.
  10. 20
A station as claimed in any one of claims 16 to 19, further comprising visual line status indicating means operatively connected to the microprocessor to indicate the presence of activity on the lines.
  11. 24
A station as claimed in any one of claims 16 to 23, further comprising holding means operatively connected between the lines and the microprocessor for selectively holding the lines.
  12. 27
A station as claimed in any one of claims 16 to 26, further comprising control means operatively connected to the switch means and the microprocessor for selectively controlling the switch means.
  13. 29
A station as claimed in any one of claims 16 to 28, wherein the switch means are arranged to connect the subset to a preselected telephone line in case of power failure to the station.
  14. 30
A station as claimed in any one of claims 16 to 29, further comprising means for requesting access to one of the telephone and intercom lines operatively connected to the microprocessor to connect the subset to the corresponding line.
  15. 36
A station as claimed in any one of claims 33 to 35, further comprising station identification means and the microprocessor is adapted to recognise received intercom control means corresponding to the station identification the station further comprising announcing means operatively connected to the microprocessor to indicate when an intercom control signal has been recognised.
  16. 39
A station as claimed in any one of claims 36 to 38, wherein the microprocessor is adapted to detect control signal collisions.
