Antenna tracking device.

Abstract

The antenna tracking device comprises an antenna (30) which is so controlled in direction as to receive a plurality of beacon signals at different frequencies transmitted from a plurality of stationary satellites, respectively, which are spaced apart from each other by a relatively small distance. An error detector (1) is connected to the feed (31) of the antenna (30) for detecting error signals each representing the difference between the incoming direction of each beacon signal and the axial direction of the main beam of the antenna. A reference signal generator is responsive to each beacon signal delivered to a receiver for generating a reference signal. A tracking receiver (2 to 5) receives the reference signals and the error signals to generate the tracking error signals each consisting of mutually orthogonal components. The antenna tracking device further includes synthesizer means (6, 7) for combining the components in the same directions of the tracking error signals from the tracking receiver, thereby generating the antenna driving signals. In response to these driving signals, the antenna is directed to the midpoint or center of a plurality of stationary satellites.

  1. 1
An antenna tracking device having an antenna (30) with a drive mechanism (32) for controlling the direction of antenna to receive a plurality of beacon signals (fl, f2) at different frequencies transmitted from a plurality of stationary satellites, respectively, spaced apart from each other by a relative small distance;error detector means (1) connected to the feed (31) of said antenna (30) for obtaining error signals (ES1, ES2) each representing the difference between the axial direction of the main beam of said antenna (30) and the incoming direction of each of said plurality of beacon signals (f1, f2);reference signal generator means which responds to said plurality of beacon signals (f1, f2) to produce reference signals (RS1, RS2) corresponding to said plurality of satellites, respectively;and tracking receiver means (2, 3, 4, 5) which receives said reference signals (RS1, RS2) and said error signals (ES1, ES2) and delivers tracking error signals (AZ1, EL1;AZ2, EL2) each consisting of mutually orthogonal components;characterized in that synthesizer means (6, 7) connected to the output of said tracking receiver means (2, 3, 4, 5) synthesizes the components in the same direction of said tracking error signals (AZ1, EL1;AZ2, EL2) to obtain synthesized signals (Δ AZ, △ EL) and delivers said synthesized signals (Δ AZ, Δ EL) to said drive mechanism (32) of said antenna (30).
  2. 4
An antenna tracking device as set forth in any of claims 1 to 3 wherein said error detector means (1) comprises a mode coupler capable of deriving at least one mode electromagnetic wave.
  3. 5
An antenna tracking device as set forth in any of claims 1 to 4 wherein said mutually orthogonal components of said tracking error signals (AZ1, EL1;AZ2, EL2) are azimuth and elevation or X and Y or the HADEC orthogonal coordinates.
