6 claims: 3 independent, 3 dependent

  1. 1
A permanent magnet alloy containing at least one rare earth element, at least one transition metal element and boron, wherein the alloy contains a predominant, tetragonal crystal phase with an atomic formula of RE 2 TM 14 B 1 , in which:RE represents one or more rare earth elements and neodymium and/or praseodymium comprise at least 60 atomic percent of the total rare earth elements present;and TM represents one or more transition metal elements, with iron comprising at least 60 atomic percent of the total transition metal elements present, and the alloy has an average crystallite size that is within the size range of 20 to 400 nanometers.
  2. 4
A permanent magnet alloy according to any one of claims 1, 2 or 3, wherein the crystallographic c axis of the tetragonal crystal phase is the preferred axis of magnetization.
  3. 5
A permanent magnet alloy according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the tetragonal crystal phase has an atomic formula Nd 2 Fe 14 B 1 .
