Thermoplastic compositions including polyphenylenether, having improved impact strength and processability characteristics.

Abstract

Thermoplastic compositions based on polyphenylenether resins, endowed with improved mechanical, thermal and solvent-resistance characteristics, comprising, for 100 parts by weight of polyphenylenether resin: -from 0 to 90 parts by weight of a thermoplastic polymer otherthan polystyrene and incompatible with such resin, and- from 1 to 90 parts by weight of a polymeric compatibility-promoting agent comprising one or more blocks of vinylaromatic monomeric units compatible with the polyphenylenether resin, and one or more blocks of unit monomers which are reactive with and/or of the same kind as or, in the polymeric state, compatible with the thermoplastic polymer, or compatible with such polymer.

  1. 1
Thermoplastic compositions based on polyphenylenether resins, comprising, for 100 parts by weight of polyphenylenether resin:a) from 0 to 90 parts by weight of a thermoplastic polymer, other than polystyrene, incompatible with the polyphenylenether resin, andb) from 1 to 90 parts by weight of a compatibility--promoting agent consisting of a polymer including one or more blocks of vinylaromatic monomeric units compatible with the polyphenylenether resin, and one or more blocks of unit monomers which are reactive with and/or of the same kind as or, in the polymeric state, compatible with the thermoplastic polymer as per point (a), or compatible with such polymer.
  2. 4
The compositions according to claims 1 to 3, in which the thermoplastic polymer is an olefinic polymer and the compatibility-promoting agent is a block copolymer AB, wherein A is a block of styrene units and B is a crystalline block deriving from an olefin C2-C6'
  3. 5
The compositions according to claims 1 to 3, in which the thermoplastic polymer is an olefinic polymer and the compatibility-promoting agent is a grafting polymer of styrene onto a crystalline polymer of an olefin C2-C6.
