Intraocular lens.

Abstract

An intraocular lens (10) suitable for use in the posterior chamber of a human eye with position-fixation legs (12, 13) suitable for individually making contact with the ciliary sulcus of the eye at two spaced points (20, 14 and 21, 16) thereof. The legs preferably are of polymethylmethacrylate with portions (15, 17) extending counterclockwise and clockwise with respect to the optic (11) to provide sufficient resilience of the free end portion (14, 16) of each leg with respect to the optic to prevent damage to the ciliary sulcus.

12 claims: 7 independent, 5 dependent

  1. 1
An intraocular lens suitable for use as an artificial lens in the interior of a human eye comprising:a light-focusing body;firstand second position-fixation means individually joined to said lens body and extending outwardly from said lens body for seating in interior portions of an eye;at least one of said position-fixation means comprising a leg extending outwardly from said lens body and having a free end portion, said leg including a portion extending generally in at least two predetermined opposite senses with respect to said lens body to provide resilience of said free end portion with respect to said lens body.
  2. 2
A lens in accordance with claim 1 in which said leg has a first portion extending in a generally counterclockwise sense with respect to said lens body and a second portion extending in a generally clockwise sense with respect to said lens body.
  3. 4
A lens in accordance with any one of claims 1 to 3 in which an imaginary longitudinal extension of a predetermined equator of said lens body intersects, at least twice, said portion extending generally in at least two predetermined opposite senses with respect to said lens body.
  4. 5
A lens in accordance with claim 1 in which said portion which extends generally in at least two predetermined opposite senses comprises a resilient loop portion extending generally in said at least two predetermined opposite sensεswith respect to said lens body.
  5. 6
A lens in accordance with any one of the preceding claims in which said leg has two spaced contact points for seating in an interior portion of an eye.
  6. 7
A lens in accordance with any one of the preceding claims in which said first and second position-fixation means each comprise legs extending from-the same lateral side of said lens body with respect to a predetermined equator of said lens body and in which said legs individually have free end portions on said same lateral side of said lens body.
  7. 8
A lens in accordance with any one of the preceding claims in which the other of said position-fixation means comprises another leg extending outwardly from said lens body and having a free end portion, said other leg including a portion extending generally in at least two predetermined opposite senses with respect to said lens body to provide resilience of said free end portion of said other leg with respect to said lens body.
  8. 9
A lens in accordance with claim 8 in which said portion of said other leg which extends generally in at least two predetermined opposite senses comprise a resilient loop portion extending generally in said last-mentioned at least two predetermined opposite senses with respect to said lens body.
  9. 10
An intraocular lens suitable for use as an artificial lens in the interior of a human eye comprising:a light-focusing lens body;position-fixation means joined to and extending outwardly from said lens body for seating in interior portions of an eye;said position-fixation means comprising a first resilient leg portion extending outwardly from said lens body, a second leg portion extending transversely with respect to said first leg portion and having at least one contact point for seating in an interior portion of an eye, and spring means located intermediate said lens body and said contact point for decreasing the resistance of said position-fixation means to flexing movement of said contact point with respect to said lens body.
  10. 11
A lens in accordance with claim 10 in which said spring means includes a pair of portions respectively extending generally in at least two predetermined opposite senses with respect to said lens body.
  11. 12
A lens in accordance with any one of the preceding claims in which the position-fixation means are of polymethylmethacrylate.
