- 3 - LABELING REQUIREMENTS
The invention relates to an apparatus for the continuous labeling of continuously fed articles of different heights, in particular magazines commissions in the magazine wholesale / with a conveyor for assembling the commissions, a discharge conveyor adjoining the conveyor unit and a conveyor belt arranged the outlet conveyor, if necessary. With a printer coupled labeler.
In the hitherto known devices of this type, the labeler is fixed above the conveyor section is arranged. As soon as an object to be labeled has been hit, a label is dispensed, if necessary previously printed, delivered to a transfer mechanism and applied by the latter to the object. Known Ubertragungsmechanismen this type are designed as stamp or swivel plate. These are moved in their predetermined path until they reach the object. Since the individual objects continue to run continuously and at a constant speed and the lowering of the transmission mechanism takes a time dependent on the height, the labels reach a position of the surface which is lower than for higher objects at lower objects. For the same reason, the conveying speed is limited so that sufficient time is available for dispensing the label and transferring it to the object.
The invention is therefore an object of the invention to provide a device of the generic type, which allows a rapid and accurate position labeling of continuously supplied objects with different heights.

This object is achieved in a device of the above type characterized in that the Etikettlerer by means of a drive height adjustable and that the labeler upstream sensor is provided / which is coupled to the drive so that the labeler corresponding to one of the speed of movement of the objects Delay whose height is adjustable.
Since the height of the incoming objects already on the
Balance belt is determined, the labeler can be adjusted accordingly, as the object moves from the scale belt on the outlet conveyor belt. The weight of the individual items is determined on the scale tape. This may be necessary for postal purposes, but often also for content control, for example by journals commissions. A calculator, in which the individual weights of the individual journals are stored, can be used to determine whether a shipment is correctly and completely assembled.
In many cases, the label applied by the labeler is printed directly by a printer associated with the labeler. In addition to the addressee and other data of the individual consignment, the label can therefore also contain information as to whether the consignment was correctly or incorrectly put together. These details are known per se and are mentioned here only for a better understanding of the invention.
Labelers typically include a drive mechanism for an endless carrier tape that pulls it around a dispensing edge where the individual labels are peeled off. These labels are temporarily held mostly by a suction plate, from which the labels are pressed mechanically or by an air blast on the objects. If the labeler is provided with a printer, it must be assigned directly to the position of the last label on the carrier tape.

So be attached in the immediate vicinity of the dispenser edge. On the other hand, the printer must not protrude into the web of articles passing under the labeler. The fulfillment of these boundary conditions naturally causes design difficulties.
According to the invention, the dispenser edge is therefore not at the level of the lower end of the labeler, but in a higher position / so that the required space for the printer is available. A suction box has a perforated plate for temporarily receiving the labels, which is height adjustable between the height of the dispensing edge and the height of the lower portion of the labeler. This is achieved by the fact that the suction plate forms part of an insert which is displaceable with respect to the suction box / which is largely guided airtight in the suction box. This idea of solution is of independent importance and also applicable in connection with other labellers.
In the following embodiments of the invention will be explained in more detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.

for example, an endless conveyor belt, on which in the example shown magazine commissions for individual magazine dealers are assembled at a wholesaler. The magazines, not shown, are transferred to an infeed conveyor 12, which for example serves to bring the magazine stacks into predetermined intervals and to continue them at a predetermined time. Then one isM** genb * n4 14 on which the individual magazine stacks are weighed. A calculator determines the target weight of a commission, after previously the individual commissions and the individual weight of the individual journals have been entered. From dawn scale tape magazine journals are transferred to a discharge belt 16. As also shown in FIG. 2, the infeed belt 12, the scale belt 14 and the outfeed belt 16 are located on a common frame 13. As shown in FIG. 2 In the rest, the individual bands carry magazine commissions 20, 22, 24 of considerably different heights due to the different orders of individual dealers.
As will be explained in more detail below, the outlet conveyor 16 is associated with a labeling device 26 which is verbun with a printer, not shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 is the. The items listed here on the individual commissions contain information about the addressee, the content of a consignment or the like and, moreover, show that the respective commission has reached the target weight or not. A deviation from Söilgewicnt suggests a faulty sorting. Zeitsc% -iften- »Stacks of this kind are sorted out later on a laterally branching conveyor 28.
The strapping band is adjoined by a strapping device 30, which straps the individual carriages transversely to the conveying device. Above a roller conveyor 32 follows

another conveyor 34, from which the individual commissions are transferred to a transversely branching conveyor 36, which lets the commissions run into another strapping device 38 in which they are strapped again in a direction offset by 90 °.
Now, more details of the inventive eciquette device 26 will be explained with reference to FIG. In Fig. 3, a partial cross section through the \ outlet belt 16 is indicated by the frame 18. Next to the j
Frame 18 is a column 40, on which the Vor¬ device 26 is moved in a manner not shown upwards and downwards. Incidentally, as shown in FIG. 2, a horizontally extending boom 42 is fastened to the device 26 and extends over the scale belt 14. At the end of the boom 42 there are two superimposed photocells 44,46. The light barriers 44, 46 influence a lifting device, not shown
Labeling device 26, such that the device 26 is set to a height at which the upper light barrier 44 extends over the respective commission and the lower light barrier 46 hits the commissio on. The process of height adjustment is initiated jj as soon as a designated in Fig. 2 with 24 'Commission has left the outlet conveyor 16. The period of time the next commission 22 needs to travel from the scale band 14 to the exit band 16 is therefore available for height adjustment without the need for excessive acceleration forces associated with very rapid movement of the relatively heavy labeler device would occur.
The apparatus 26 includes labeler 48 and a printer 50 which are connected and spatially engaged in a unit.

All parts of the labeller and the printer are mounted on a common, not explained in detail frame.
A supply roll 52 includes a carrier tape 54 having an endless row of non-printed or at least partially printed labels 56. The carrier tape 54 is drawn around guide rollers 58 and 60 and then around a conventional dispensing edge 62. At the dispenser edge the labels are peeled off 56 / while the empty carrier tape runs below the dispenser edge around a guide roller 64, a drive roller 66 and another guide roller 68 on a collecting roller 70.
The printer 50 is indicated above the dispenser edge 62.
In the left upper area in Fig. 3 is a suction box 72, the front wall is omitted for clarity. In the suction box 72, a slight negative pressure is generated by a valve 74. Approximately in the region of the half shown on the left in FIG. 3, the suction box 72 is closed at the bottom by a horizontal partition 76. Below the free edge of the partition 76 guides 78 are provided, the vertical guide rods 80 record lengthwise.
The guide rods 80 are connected at their lower ends with a perforated plate 82. Di * perforated plate 82 is connected at its right in Fig. 3 edge with a vertically upstanding plate 84 which extends along the inner surface of a designated 86, right wall of the suction box 72. In the lower left corner of the Saugkaetens, each based on Fig. 3, is a box eich 88 for receiving control parts or the like.

When the perforated plate 82 is now displaced up and down together with the guide rods 80 by a drive, not shown, the plate 84 slides over the inner surface of the wall 86 and the left edge of the perforated plate 82 over the right wall of the box 88, without any appreciable Lufteiubruch in the suction box 72 is made possible. The negative pressure thus remains substantially maintained. This construction offers the possibility of lifting the perforated plate 82 respectively for receiving a label 56 from the dispensing edge 62 and then lowering it again to the level of the lower surface of the device for the subsequent labeling operation.
Although it would also be possible to rigidly connect the perforated plate 82 to the suction box, in this case the dispensing edge would have to be laid down at the level of the perforated plate 82. This would lead to significant difficulties in accommodating the printer and the drive and conveying elements of the carrier tape 54, as these parts would have to be arranged without exception above the dispenser edge, unless it should be accepted that they may be down in the web protrude into objects to be labeled. In contrast, the described lifting device for labels wesentlieh easier.
In some of the holes of the perforated plate 82 open non-designated nozzles, which are connected to bruckluftsehläuchen 90, which communicate via a manifold 92 with an air hose 94. The labels can therefore be solved in a known manner by delivering a puff of air from the perforated plate 32 and transferred to an object to be labeled.
