Apparatus for checking the tightness of gas masks Gas masks are generally tested for their tightness that the mask wearer go into a room in which highly irritating gases or vapors are spread, which act on the respiratory organs in Urdichtigkeit the mask. Such tests are not applicable in many cases for lack of suitable spaces and means.
The invention now provides a test device with which the tightness of gas masks can be tested everywhere, especially in the open, quickly and reliably. The test device according to the invention consists of a hermetically connectable to the filter connection piece of the mask housing, with which a pressure gauge is connected and a manually openable closure, z. B. a push-button valve, through which flows in the test, the inhaled air. In addition, a tightly closable filling opening can be arranged on the housing for filling in a material which indicates the original tightness of the mask. By introducing visible vapors, mist or powder, for. As eucalyptus mist or talc, in the exhalation, the leaks can be made visible in a conventional manner also.
Although it has already become known to test the tightness of respirators by means of a pressure gauge in such a way that in the lines of the respirator overpressure or negative pressure is generated and is observed on the pressure gauge, whether the pressure drops slowly or quickly or rises. However, the known test device is designed much more cumbersome and not suitable for rapid testing of the tightness and tight fit of several of the mask wearers applied masks. The test device according to the invention, however, offers the considerable advantage that it can be screwed quickly to any mask, so that successively a whole series of masks can be checked for their proper seat on the face of the device carrier.
The new test device is shown in the drawing in an embodiment partly in section, partly in the side view in conjunction with the gas mask to be tested.
The gas mask has a hermetically connected filter connection piece a, which serves to screw the insert filter. To test the tightness of the applied mask, the housing c is connected airtight to the Filteranschlußstücka by screwing the ring nut before screwing the filter insert. With the housing c a pressure gauge b is connected. The lower part of the housing is formed at e as a handle, by means of which the housing can be conveniently connected to the mask and removed from it.
On the housing c a manually openable closure f is attached. This can z. B. be designed as a push-button valve and are arranged so that the mask wearer when touching the handle e with the right hand by the pressure of the thumb can open the valve.
The test is carried out in such a way that the mask wearer inhales with the closure open f and then exhale with the closure closed, the pointer of the pressure gauge b depending on the resulting overpressure reaches a certain position, the pointer keeps this position for a short time, during which the Breath is stopped, so the mask is tight and close to the face, while a rapid decrease in overpressure indicates leaking or leaking seat of the mask.
The pressure gauge b is set up so that it not only displays the overpressure that occurs when exhaling in the mask, but also the negative pressure that occurs when inhaling f when the valve is closed. The tightness of the mask can therefore also be tested by generating negative pressure in the mask during inhalation. Another way of Dichtigkeitspriifung is that f is breathed for a short time with the valve closed. The pressure gauge then displays the strength of each train. If there are leaks in the mask, then the breathing air will pass through them, so exert little or no effect on the pressure gauge. The stoppage of the pressure gauge when breathing or only a slight back and forth movement of its pointer then indicates that leaks are present.
In order to also be able to recognize where the leaks of the mask are located, through the tightly closable filling opening g in the housing c urischädliche or the respiratory organs beneficial visible vapors, mists or powder, eg. B. eucalyptus mist or talc, are introduced, which escape during exhalation through the .undichten points of the mask.
