System and method for underwater observation

A system incorporating the teachings of the present description may include, for example, a water vehicle that includes a deck that accommodates a group of passengers above the waterline and an observation gondola that accommodates a group of passengers by below the waterline. Access between the observation gondola and the cover is provided through an opening in the upper part of the observation gondola. The observation gondola includes a transparent floor and walls that allow the group of passengers to enjoy an underwater experience without exposure to water while maintaining a panoramic view without obstruction of the underwater environment. The underwater observation gondola can include a substantially open top, with a weatherproof cover and sunscreen. The open top exposes the outdoor observation gondola, while relieving any sensation of claustrophobia that might otherwise be experienced by passengers during underwater observation.
