Abstract

1474281 Pyrazole derivatives SANDOZ Ltd 6 March 1974 [9 March 1973 25 June 1973 9 Jan 1974] 9969/74 Heading C2C [Also in Division C3] A method of stabilizing organic material susceptible to degradation under the effect of heat, oxidation or ultraviolet light which comprises treating said material with a compound of Formula I wherein R 1 is alkyl (C 1 -C 22 ); cycloalkyl (C 5 -C 12 ); cycloalkyl (C 5 -C 11 ) alkyl (C 1 -C 7 ); alkyl (C 1 -C 21 ) thioalkyl (C 1 -C 21 ) with C 2 - C 22 in the aggregate thereof; cycloalkyl (C 5 - C 11 ) alkyl (C 1 -C 6 ) thioalkyl-(C 1 -C 6 ) with C 7 -C 18 in the aggregate thereof; aralkyl (C 7 -C 12 ); aralkyl (C 7 -C 12 ) substituted on the aryl nucleus by 1 or 2 hydroxyl groups, 1 or 2 alkyl (C 1 -C 12 ) groups, cycloalkyl (C 5 -C 12 ) and/or cycloalkyl (C 5 -C 11 ) alkyl (C 1 -C 11 ); phenyl; phenyl substituted by 1 to 3 halogen atoms, cyano, 1 or 2 hydroxyl groups, 1 or 2 alkyl (C 1 -C 12 ) groups, 1 or 2 alkoxy (C 1 -C 12 ) groups, phenyl, -SO 3 H and/or a radical R 4 -O- or R 4 -SO 2 -, wherein R 4 is phenyl or phenyl substituted by 1 or 2 alkyl (C 1 -C 8 ) groups; R 2 has one of the significances of R 1 or is a furane, thiophene, benzothiophene, indole, pyridine or quinoxaline radical, each of which is either unsubstituted or substituted by halogen, alkyl (C 1 -C 4 ) and/or alkoxy (C 1 -C 4 ) with 1 or 2 substituents in the aggregate thereof; R 3 has one of the significances of R 1 or is cyano or -COOR 5 , wherein R 5 is alkyl (C 1 - C 12 ), cycloalkyl-(C 5 -C 12 ), cycloalkyl (C 5 -C 11 ) alkyl (C 1 -C 7 ), phenyl or phenyl substituted by hydroxy and/or 1 to 2 alkyl (C 1 -C 8 ) groups, and Me is hydrogen or an equivalent of a bivalent metal ion. Novel compounds of Formula Ie wherein R 2 <SP>IV</SP> is alkyl (C 8 -C 13 ); a cycloalkyl (C 6 -C 12 ); aralkyl (C 7 -C 10 ); aralkyl substituted on the aryl nucleaus by hydroxyl and/or 1 or 2 alkyl (C 1 -C 6 ) groups; phenyl; phenyl substituted by 1 or 2 halogens, a hydroxyl, 1 or 2 alkyl or alkoxy-(C 1 -C 8 ) groups and/or phenyl with 1 to 3 substituents in the aggregate thereof and when exclusively substituted by halogen, has 2 halogen substituents; a furane, thiophene, benzothiophene, indole, pyridine or quinoxaline radical, unsusbstituted or substituted by 1 or 2 halogen atoms, 1 or 2 alkyl or alkoxy-(C 1 -C 4 ) groups with 1 or 2 substituents in the aggregate thereof, and R 1 , R 3 and Me are as defined previously are prepared by condensing a compound of Formula III with a compound of Formula II and, when Me signifies the equivalent of a metal ion, converting the resulting product into the corresponding Me salt.
