Field of technology
The present invention relates to the packaging of a group of cylindrical cans, the walls of which are bevelled inwards at the top and bottom, into a carton with open ends,
Prior art
U.S. Patent 2,849,111, issued August 26, 1958, discloses a carton for packaging a plurality of cans, which includes a retaining structure on either side of the corners of the carton for cooperating and holding the packaged cans against falling out with the open ends of the carton.
U.S. Patent 4,093,116, issued June 6, 1978, discloses a packaging-type carton for canning packaging, where holes are formed at the corners of the carton to secure bottles by inserting portions of packaged cans into these openings, thereby preventing cans from falling out through the open ends of the package.
U.S. Patent 4,735,315, issued April 5, 1988, discloses a canned carton whose ends are closed by end flaps which are joined together in a conventional manner to prevent cans from falling out at the ends of the carton. This patent also describes an upwardly and outwardly sloping strip placed longitudinally inwards and further downwardly obliquely cylindrical joints which form the lower end portions of packaged cans to remove square corners at the bottom of the carton and thus the tendency of the ends cartons stacked on top of each other.
The essence of the invention
A carton of one piece of flat material for packaging a group of cans having cylindrical walls in the bottom and lid portions provided with an inwardly chamfered groove, the essence of which is to include a top wall, a first pair of continuous continuous slanted strips flexibly connected to the side edges the walls are flexibly connected along their respective upper edges to the first pair of sloping strips, a second pair of continuous uninterrupted bevelled strips flexibly connected along their respective upper edges to the side walls, a pair of lower panels flexibly connected along respective edges of the bend to the other ................: ..... 7 ..- ,,,, · ... . : <, ι,. · li i .-- ^ 707ΐ., ΐ. List of pictures, in the drawings
Fig. 1 shows a carton blank according to the invention in an unfolded shape as seen from the inside; Fig. 2 is a perspective view of an assembled and fully loaded carton formed from the blank depicted in Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a longitudinal partial section through the plane
3-3 of the carton of FIG. 2; Fig. 4 is also a carton blank in an unfolded shape but otherwise modified, in which the end panels are flexibly connected to the end edges of the top wall of the carton, and Fig. 5 is a view similar to Fig. 2 showing an assembled and fully loaded carton formed from the blank drawn in Fig.4
Examples of embodiments according to the invention
A pair of finger insertion holes 2 and 3 are formed in the top wall 1. These openings are normally closed by respective flaps 4 and 5, which are bent
- 5 weakly connected by their bases 6 and 7 to the top wall £. The pair of auxiliary notches 6a and 6b adjoin the finger insertion opening 2 and point generally towards the corners of the top wall. Corresponding auxiliary notches 7a and 7b are formed on the opposite side. A pair of continuous uninterrupted beveled strips 8 and 9 are flexibly connected to the top wall 6 along the respective edge 10 and 11 of the bend. The bending edges 10 and 11 are extended into diverging edges 10a and 11a, which are angularly arranged with respect to the bending edges 10 and 11. The side walls 12 and 13 are flexibly connected to the sloping strips 8 and 9 along the respective edges 14 and 15 of the bend. The anchor panels 16 and 17 are bendably connected to the end edges of the left side wall 12 along the respective bend edges 18 and 19, while the anchor panels 20 and 21 are bendably connected to the end edges of the right side wall 13 along the respective bend edges 22 and 23.
The slanted strip 24 is bendably connected to the lower edge of the left side wall 12 along the bend edge 25 and the slanted strip 26 is flexibly connected to the lower edge of the right side wall 13 along the bend edge 27.
Preferably, the sloping lanes 8 and 9 are slightly wider than the sloping lanes 24 and 26.
The left bottom panel 28 is flexibly connected to the bottom edge of the beveled strip 24 along the edge 29 of the bend and the right bottom panel 30 is flexibly connected to the bottom edge of the beveled strip 26 along the edge 31 of the bend.
To ensure that the packaged cans form a solid cohesive group in the carton, the paperboard blank is placed over the packaged group and the anchor panels 16, 17, 20 and 21 are bent inwardly in flat contact with the adjacent inner surface of the side walls 12 and 13 as usual. The catch formations 50 and 51, 52 and 53 are located on each side of both upper corners of the carton and prevent the cans from falling out at the end. The use of folds for this purpose is known. Similarly, the catch formations 54, 55, 56 and 57 are located on each side of both lower corners of the carton and also prevent cans from falling out at its end.
To secure the lower panels 28 and 30 in a position of mutual overlap, a set of retaining flaps 32, 33, 34 and 35 is pressed in the left lower panel 28 to insert the respective locking flaps 36, 37, 38 and 39, arranged in the right lower panel. 30. These locking flaps are passed through the holding flaps 32 to 35 after the blank is securely wrapped around the group of packaged cans and secured in this position by simple mechanical elements which are inserted into the fastening holes 40. 41 and 42 formed in the lower left panel 28 and by similar mechanical fasteners which insert into the holes 43, 44 and 45 formed in the right lower panel 30 and which extend inwardly as the opposite pole of the mechanical elements located in the fastening holes 40, 41 and 42. This is necessary to tighten the blank around the packaged group before locking the two bottom panels 28 and 30 in overlap with each other to form a folded carton bottom.
Each retaining structure consists of two retaining panels 60 and 61 which are bendably connected together by respective diverging edges 10a and 11a which divert inwardly at an angle which generally corresponds to the bevel angle of the internally inclined upper portions of the side wall. The retaining panel 60 is flexibly connected to the end of the anchor panel 16 along the edge 62 of the bend and the retaining panel 61 is flexibly connected to the top wall 6 along the edge 63 of the bend which is located tangential to the top of the can. The bending edges 62 and 63 are preferably set at an angle of 120 degrees to each other. The cut-out portion 64 serves to separate the catch panel 60 from the slanted strip 8. It will be appreciated that the catch structure as described in connection with the catch structure 50 is also the same in the case of the catch structure 51 to 57.
The bending edges 29a and 31a correspond to the respective bending edges 10a and 11a, and the bending edges 29b and 31b correspond to the bending edges 62.
When the package of Fig. 1 is placed around a group of cans, as indicated in Fig. 2, and the slanted strips 8 and 24 are tightly inserted into the inner recesses of the IR packaged cans, then the group of cans forms a compact and secure structure. Such a carton, which is adapted to a certain configuration of cans and which also strives for an attractive appearance, is evident from FIG. 2. In addition, retaining formations 50, 51, 54 and 56 are located on each side of the corners of the carton to secure the packaged cans and prevent the cans from falling out at the end of the carton. Similar retaining bodies 52, 53, 55 and 57 secure the opposite ends of the carton.
The blank shown in Fig. 4 is similar to the blank in Fig. 1a. The parts which correspond to each other are denoted by the same reference numerals. The blank in Fig. 4, in contrast to the blank in Fig. 1, comprises
panels 65 and 66 which are flexibly connected to the top wall along the respective bending edges 67 and 68 instead of retaining structures comprising two retaining panels at the corners of the top wall JL, a single retaining panel 69 is flexibly connected to one end of the end panel 65 along the bending edge 68 and with the adjacent end of the anchor panel 16 along the edge 59 of the bend. In a similar manner, a simple triangular retaining panel 70 is flexibly connected to the end panel 65 along the bend edge 71 and to the anchor panel 20 along the bend edge 72. The cut-out portion 73 is located at a location adjacent to the end of the edge of the sloping strip 8 and a similar cut-out portion 74 is located adjacent to the end of the sloping strip 9. These cut-outs 73 and 74 serve to separate the adjacent ends of the sloping strips 8 and 9 from the respective catches. panels 69 and 70.
At the other end of the carton, a single retaining panel 75 is flexibly connected to one end of the end panel 66 along the bend edge 76 and to the adjacent end of the anchor panel 17 along the bend edge 77. Similarly, a simple retaining panel 78 is flexibly connected to the end of the end panel 66 along the edge 79 of the bend and to the adjacent end of the anchor panel 21 along the edge 80 of the bend.
The blank of Fig. 4 folded into the final shape of the package is drawn in a perspective view in Fig. 5. The end panels 65 and 66 are added for security of packaging and also form a useful space for documents if needed.
According to the present invention, a safe and compact package is provided which is specially adapted for use in connection with cans, IR recesses in the upper and lower part (see Fig. 3). This container is provided with suitable means for holding cans without the use of openings for this purpose formed in the sloping strips 8, 9, 24 and 26, or in some cases formed in the upper and lower parts of the side walls of the carton, to serve as means for securing the cans against falling out. end of package. Thus, according to the invention, the safety of formation and the compactness of the package are ensured, which is specially adapted for the use of cans having inwardly directed recesses in their upper and lower part. In addition, the packaging has an attractive appearance and provides a compact assembly of a packaged group of cans.
