Ephemeral message galleries
Abstract
The invention provides a short-term library of short-term messages. Short-term messages including media content such as photos or videos are submitted to the short-term gallery. Short-term messages have associated message duration parameters and gallery participation parameters. The message duration parameters determine the duration of the message displayed on the screen during the automatic slide show type viewing in the gallery. The gallery participation parameters indicate that it is in the short-term gallery. The continuous available time value of the short message. When the gallery availability parameter expires, the short-term gallery is eliminated to make it impossible to view. In some embodiments, the gallery is eliminated when the gallery timer expires or when the gallery participation parameter of the last short-term message submitted to the gallery expires, whichever is the earliest.

[0001] This application is a divisional application of a patent application with an application date of October 2, 2015, an application number of 201580065266.7, and an invention title of "Short Message Gallery".
[0002] Citation of related applications
[0003] This application claims priority from U.S. Patent Application No. 14/505,478 filed on October 2, 2014, the entire contents of which are incorporated herein by reference.
Technical field
[0004] The present invention generally relates to the display of ephemeral messages transmitted by a computer network. More particularly, the present invention relates to an ephemeral gallery of short-time messages.
Background technique
[0005] The delivery of messages (eg, text, photos, or videos) via computer networks is well known. However, a problem related to this kind of message is that once the message is viewed or read, the user needs to make a confirmation action to delete or remove the message from his device. Therefore, in some cases, users refrain from sending many messages spontaneously because they are worried that the recipient's inbox will be filled or cluttered.
[0006] In view of the foregoing, it is desirable to maintain spontaneity and expand the communication content of messaging activities, while reducing the burden of device management imposed on message recipients.
Summary of the invention
[0007] The server has a processor and a memory storing instructions executed by the processor to maintain a short-term library of short-term messages. The short-term message is submitted to the short-term gallery. The short-term message has an associated message duration parameter (message duration parameter) and a gallery participation parameter (gallery participation parameter). In response to the identification of the expired gallery participation parameter, the short-term message is removed from the short-term gallery.

Detailed ways
[0021] FIG. 1 shows an electronic device 100. In one embodiment, the electronic device 100 is a smart phone with a processor 102, and the processor 102 communicates with the memory 104. The processor 102 may be a central processing unit and/or a graphics processing unit. The memory 104 is a combination of flash memory and random access memory. The memory 104 stores the short-term message controller 106 to implement the operation of the present invention. The short-time message controller 106 may include executable instructions for accessing a server that coordinates the operations disclosed herein. Alternatively, the short-term message controller 106 may include executable instructions for coordinating some operations disclosed herein, while the server performs other operations.
[0022] The short-term message may be text, image, video, etc. The display time of the short message is usually set by the message sender. However, the display time can also be set by default or specified by the recipient. Regardless of the setting technique, the message is temporary (that is, the message is deleted or cannot be accessed after a certain period of time or after a certain action is taken).
[0023] The processor 102 is also coupled to the image sensor 115. The image sensor 115 may be a well-known digital image sensor, such as a charge coupled device. The image sensor collects the visual media presented on the display 116.
[0024] The touch controller 118 is connected to the display 116 and the processor 102. The touch controller 118 responds to haptic signals applied to the display 116. In one embodiment, the short-term message controller 106 monitors the signal from the touch controller 118. If the tactile contact associated with the mark of the short-term gallery is observed through the touch controller 118, the short-term gallery is displayed to the user as a series of short-term messages.
[0025] The electronic device 100 may also include other components commonly associated with a smart phone, such as a wireless signal processor 120 that provides a connection to a wireless network. The power control circuit 122 and the global positioning system processor 124 may also be used. Although many components in FIG. 1 are well-known in the art, new functions can be implemented by the short-time message controller 106 operating in conjunction with a server.
[0026] FIG. 2 illustrates processing operations associated with the short-time message controller 106. Initially, 200 short-term messages are collected. FIG. 3 shows an electronic device 100 and a touch display 116 having a photo 300, which is used as a short-time message.
[0027] The next processing operation of FIG. 2 is to determine whether to change the timer or message duration parameter 202. Fig. 3 shows an example of a mark 302 of the message duration parameter. In this example, the flag indicates that the default value of the message duration parameter is 5 seconds. If the marker is triggered (for example, by tactile contact), a reminder of a new message duration parameter (for example, 10 seconds) may be provided. This activity (202: Yes) results in the acceptance 204 of the new timer value. If a new timer value is specified, or the timer does not change (202: No), control proceeds to block 206. The user can be prompted to augment the short-time message. As shown in FIG. 3, a drawing tool 304 may be provided to allow the user to add hand-drawn messages. The drawing tool 304 can be manipulated through tactile contact to input messages or annotations of visual media. Alternatively or in addition, a keyboard can be used to type enhanced messages. For example, tapping on the touch display 116 may result in a keyboard being displayed that allows the user to enter a typed message.
[0028] As shown in FIG. 2, the annotation 208 can be accepted in this manner. Enhancements can also be in the form of photo filters. In other words, photo filters can be accepted 210. For example, the first right-to-left swipe on the touch display 116 can drag the first filter on the top of the photo. A second right-to-left swipe on the touch display 116 can drag the second filter on the top of the photo. This type of filter processing is described in the jointly owned US serial number 14/325,270, filed on July 7, 2014, the content of which is incorporated herein by reference.
[0029] The next operation in FIG. 2 is to accept a destination 212. As described more fully below, the target can be used to identify the intended recipient of a message or location or "gallery" (in which one or more messages can be accessed). FIG. 3 shows an icon 306 for calling the target list. The tactile contact on the icon can lead to a target list of the type shown in FIG. 4. FIG. 4 shows the electronic device 100 displaying the target list. The target list may include targets of "My Story" 402, where "My Story" is a reference to a short-term gallery of short-term messages. The target list may also include a friend or contact area 404, which lists friends who can be recipients of short-time messages. The tactile contact to the box 406 associated with the listed individual or story places the corresponding individual or story on the target list.
[0030] Returning to FIG. 2, after the target list is designated, a short-term message is sent to the designated target 214. For example, a short message is sent to a friend selected from the area 404 (if any). A check is also made to determine whether the message was submitted to the short-term gallery 216. If not (216: No), complete the processing. If it is (216: Yes), the process 220 of FIG. 6 is executed. Therefore, it is possible to send a message to one or more friends and/or submit to a short-term gallery.
[0031] FIG. 5 shows a system 500. This figure shows a simplified representation of a group of electronic devices 100_1 to 100_N, where each electronic device can be configured as the device of FIG. 1. Each electronic device communicates with a network 502, which can be any combination of wireless and wired networks.
[0032] The server 504 is also connected to the network 502. The server 504 includes standard components, such as a central processing unit 510, which is connected to an input/output device 514 via a network 512. The input/output device 514 may include a keyboard, a mouse, a display, and the like. The network interface circuit 516 is also connected to the bus 512 to provide a connection to the network 502. The memory 520 is also connected to the bus 512. The memory 520 stores the short-term library module 522. The short-term library module 522 stores instructions executed by the central processing unit 510 to implement the operation of the present invention. For example, the short-term library module 522 may include instructions for coordinating the processing operations of FIG. 2. These operations may be controlled by the short-term gallery module 522, or may be performed in conjunction with selective operations performed by the short-term message controller 106.
[0033] FIG. 6 illustrates the operation of the short-term library module 522 performed according to an embodiment of the present invention. The first operation in FIG. 6 is to determine whether a new gallery 600 is needed. As discussed in conjunction with FIG. 4, designating "My Story" 402 as the message recipient allows the short-term message to be submitted to the short-term gallery. If the gallery does not exist (600: Yes), a new gallery 602 is created. Alternatively, if a gallery exists and the user wants to create a new gallery, a new gallery 602 is created. It is possible to provide the user with a prompt as to whether the existing gallery should be used or a new gallery should be specified.
[0034] The message is then submitted 606 to the gallery with gallery participation parameters. The gallery participation parameter is the short period of time that the short-term message will continue to exist in the gallery. For example, the first short-time message submitted to the gallery may have a default 24-hour gallery participation parameter. In other examples, the gallery participation parameters can be set by the user. The value of the gallery participation parameter decreases with the passage of time. Therefore, in this embodiment, the short-term message gallery has the gallery participation parameter time of the last message submitted to the gallery.
[0035] In another embodiment, a gallery timer may be assigned to the gallery by the user. The gallery timer can be used to create the expiration date of the associated gallery, and the existence of messages submitted to the gallery does not exceed the expiration date of the gallery. Therefore, in some embodiments, all messages submitted to the gallery will exist during the life of the gallery (regardless of the time of submission). In other embodiments, the message can be submitted along with the gallery participation parameters. In these embodiments, the message expires or becomes inaccessible in the early days of the gallery participation parameter or the remaining life of the gallery.
[0036] The next processing operation of FIG. 6 is to submit an activity mark 608. Examples of active tags are provided below. A check is then made to determine whether there is an expired participation parameter 610. If it is (610: Yes), then remove the short-term message associated with the expired participation parameter from the short-term gallery 614. As a result of the removed message, if the gallery is empty (616: Yes), then
The short-term gallery is terminated and the mark 618 of the gallery is removed. If the gallery is not empty (616: No), check the new message 612. If a new message exists (612: Yes), the process returns to block 604. If the new message does not exist (612: No), the process returns to block 610. If there are no expired participation parameters (610: No), the new message 612 is checked again.
[0037] FIG. 7 shows the data structure of the short-term message gallery. The first malicious U700 may have a list of messages. Another column U702 may have a list of message duration parameters for each message. Another column 704 may have a list of gallery participation parameters for each message. Observe in this example that the values in column 702 total 30 seconds. The short message gallery in this example has four messages, so it will take 30 seconds to display. Further observation, the oldest message (Message") is displayed first, and the message will be deleted within 120 minutes. In this example, the latest message (Message_4) will be kept in the short-term gallery for 1320 minutes. Unless another message is submitted, the short-term gallery will expire at this time. The arrival of new messages will change the gallery timer, but will not change the gallery participation parameters.
[0038] FIG. 8 shows an interface 800 with an area 802 specifying available short-time message gallery (story), and an area 804 with a list of friends (available targets for short-time messages). It is observed that the area 802 has a mark of the short-term message gallery activity. Figure 8 provides an example mark of the time when the last message was submitted to the short-term message gallery. Figure 8 also provides an example graphical markup of the remaining amount of time of the short-term message gallery. It is observed that the first entry was submitted 20 minutes ago, so there is a complete circle to indicate the remaining time of the short-term message gallery. On the other hand, the third entry was submitted 12 hours ago and has approximately half a circle to indicate the remaining time of the short message gallery. This example considers the 24-hour period of the short-term message gallery. Naturally, other time periods can also be used according to embodiments of the present invention.
[0039] FIG. 9 shows an interface 900 with information about a user's story. Each story 902 has a mark of the amount of time remaining. A mark 904 of the number of views of the short-term gallery is also provided. A mark 906 for taking a screenshot of the short message is also provided. Because the intent of the message is temporary, this information is important. If the message recipient overturns the intent by taking a screenshot, the message sender is notified.
[0040] FIG. 10 shows processing operations performed by the short-term gallery module 522 in response to a request for a short-term message gallery. As shown in Figure 8, the user receives a list 802 of available stories. The tactile contact with the marker of the story may be operated as a request to view the short-time message gallery.
[0041] The first operation in FIG. 10 is to display the next message 1000 in the gallery. In the example of Figure 7, the oldest message is the first message to be displayed. Then start the message timer 1002. The message timer expires at the end of the message duration parameter of the displayed short-time message. In the example of Figure 7, the first message (Message") is displayed for 10 seconds. Block 1004 checks whether the timer has expired. Once the timer expires (1004: Yes), a check is made to determine if the gallery is empty 1006. If it is (1006: Yes), the processing is completed at 1008. If not (1006: No), the process returns to block 1000. Repeat this process until the gallery is empty.
[0042] FIG. 11 shows an account management interface 1100 for establishing a short-term gallery for receiving short-term messages from multiple users. This feature can be used to assist accounts of celebrities or organizations, where multiple authorized users are allowed to submit on behalf of a single account. In one embodiment, the user name, display name, contact email, and contact phone number are specified by the account administrator. The authorization account prompt 1102 allows the account administrator to add other users to the short-term gallery. For example, activation of the prompt 1102 may elicit prompts for the user name, display name, contact email, and/or contact phone number. Alternatively, the activation of the prompt 1102 can lead to an interface of the type shown in FIG. 4, through which an authorized account can be added.
