Systems and methods for mirroring and transcoding media content

Abstract

Systems and methods for mirroring and transcoding media content are provided. In some embodiments, media content stored on a user equipment device is mirrored on a remote server, and the mirrored copy is transcoded and provided to other user devices in a media content format that is appropriate for the user devices. By so doing, the present invention not only provides a convenient and easy way for users to backup media content and access the media content from virtually any device, but also reduces the complexity and costs associated with maintaining reliable and consistent access to media content across various user devices.

  1. 1
A method for providing access to content, the method comprising:automatically determining, when media content is added or updated on a first user equipment, whether the added or updated media content stored on the first user equipment is of a user-selected type;based on determining that the added or updated media content stored on the first user equipment is of the userselected type, mirroring the added or updated media content stored on the first user equipment on a remote server, wherein the remote server is coupled to the first user equipment over a network;transcoding, on the remote server, the mirrored copy of the added or updated media content to a media content format that is appropriate for second user equipment;and automatically transmitting the mirrored, transcoded media content to the second user equipment.
  2. 6
A system for providing access to content, the system comprising:control circuitry configured to: automatically determine, when media content is added or updated on a first user equipment, whether the added or updated media content stored on the first user equipment is of a user-selected type;based on determining that the added or updated media content stored on the first user equipment is of the userselected type, mirror the added or updated media content stored on the first user equipment on a remote server, wherein the remote server is coupled to the first user equipment over a network;transcode, on the remote server, the mirrored copy of the added or updated media content to a media content format that is appropriate for second user equipment;and automatically transmit the mirrored, transcoded media content to the second user equipment.
  3. 11
A method for providing access to content, the method comprising:mirroring, on a remote server, media content from a first user equipment, wherein mirroring the media content includes storing a mirrored copy of the media content on the remote server;transcoding, on the remote server, the mirrored copy of the media content to a media format that is appropriate for a second user equipment;determining, on the remote server, that the media content has been updated on the first user equipment with one or more subsequent updates;in response to the determining, on the remote server, that the media content has been updated on the first user equipment with the one or more subsequent updates: - 54 Date Reçue/Date Received 2021-03-30 85734628 mirroring, on the remote server, the one or more subsequent updates;and transcoding the mirrored copy of the one or more subsequent updates into the media format that is appropriate for the second user equipment;and transmitting the transcoded, mirrored copy of the media content and the transcoded, mirrored one or more subsequent updates in the second format to the second user equipment.
  4. 16
A system for providing access to content, the system comprising:control circuitry configured to: - 55 Date Reçue/Date Received 2021-03-30 85734628 mirror, on a remote server, media content from a first user equipment, wherein mirroring the media content includes storing a mirrored copy of the media content on the remote server;transcode, on the remote server, the mirrored copy of the media content to a media format that is appropriate for a second user equipment;determine, on the remote server, that the media content has been updated on the first user equipment with one or more subsequent updates;in response to the determining, on the remote server, that the media content has been updated on the first user equipment with the one or more subsequent updates: mirror, on the remote server, the one or more subsequent updates;and transcode the mirrored copy of the one or more subsequent updates into the media format that is appropriate for the second user equipment;and transmit the transcoded, mirrored copy of the media content and the transcoded, mirrored one or more subsequent updates in the second format to the second user equipment.
