Systems and methods for cloud processing and overlaying of content on streaming video frames of remotely processed applications

Abstract

Methods are provided for augmenting a remotely served application. A video frame generated by an application is searched to detect a key graphical image. The searching is performed based on an expected location of the key graphical image in the video frame and an expected pixel pattern of the key graphical image. An overlay image is obtained, representing a universal achievement status of a user associated with one or more games. The user's determined universal achievement status is correlated to one or more of a number of predefined overlay images stored on a data storage device. Overlay construction data is acquired from the data storage device for at least one of the predefined overlay images. The acquired overlay construction data is supplied to overlay logic that operates to insert the at least one predefined overlay images in the video frame. The video frame is then encoded and transmitted to a computing system of the user.

  1. 1
Claims 1. A method for augmenting a remotely served application, comprising:searching a video frame generated by an application to detect a key graphical image, wherein the searching is performed based on an expected location of the key graphical image in the video frame, and wherein the searching is performed based on an expected pixel pattern of the key graphical image;detecting the key graphical image in the video frame based on the searching;obtaining an overlay image representing a universal achievement status of a user associated with one or more games;correlating the user's determined universal achievement status to one or more of a number of predefined overlay images stored on a data storage device;acquiring overlay construction data from the data storage device for at least one of the number of predefined overlay images correlated to the user's determined universal achievement status;supplying the acquired overlay construction data to overlay logic, the overlay logic operating to insert the at least one of the predefined overlay images in the video frame;encoding the video frame, using an encoder, with the at least one of the predefined overlay images inserted therein;and transmitting the encoded video frame to a computing system of the user.
  2. 7
A data storage device having program instructions stored thereon for execution by a computer and for augmenting a remotely served application, said program instructions comprising:pr ogram instructions for searching a video frame generated by an application to detect a key graphical image, wherein the searching is performed based on an expected location of the key graphical image in the video frame, and wherein the searching is performed based on an expected pixel pattern of the key graphical image;pr ogram instructions for detecting the key graphical image in the video frame based on the searching;pro gram instructions for obtaining an overlay image representing a universal achievement status of a user associated with one or more games;pro gram instructions for correlating the user's determined universal achievement status to one or more of a number of predefined overlay images stored on a data storage device;pro gram instructions for acquiring overlay construction data from the data storage device for at least one of the number of predefined overlay images correlated to the user's determined universal achievement status;pro gram instructions for supplying the acquired overlay construction data to overlay logic, the overlay logic operating to insert the at least one of the predefined overlay images in the video frame;program instructions for providing the video frame as output from the overlay logic to an encoder, the encoder operating to encode the video frame;and program instructions for transmitting the encoded video frame to a computing system of the user.
