Canister filter system with drain that cooperates with filter element

Abstract

A filter system disclosed herein includes: a canister including an open end and a closed end; a drain having threads and engaging the closed end of the canister; and a filter element. The filter element includes a center tube having an interior sidewall and defining a central reservoir; first and second opposite end plates; a seal circumferentially formed around the first end plate; and a pocket defining a port extending from the second end plate into the central reservoir. The pocket includes: an inner wall having threads configured for mutual engagement with the threads of the drain; an outer wall; and a plurality of projections extending from the outerwall toward the interior sidewall of the center tube. The drain has a closed position in which the threads of the drain mutually engage the threads of the inner wall and the seal engages the open end of the canister.
