Method for producing negative carbon fuel

Abstract

A method and process is described for producing negative carbon fuel. In its broadest form, a carbon-containing input is converted to combustible fuels, refinery feedstock, or chemicals and a carbonaceous solid concurrently in separate and substantially uncontaminated form. I n an embodiment of the invent ion, biomass is converted via discrete increasing temperatures under pressure to blendable combustible fuels and a carbonaceous sol id. The carbonaceous sol id may be reacted to synthesis gas, sold as charcoal product, carbon credits, used for carbon offsets, or sequestered.

7 claims: 5 independent, 2 dependent

  1. 1
CLAIMS:1. A method for making negative carbon fuel and sequesterable carbon from a carboncontaining input, comprising: concurrently converting a carbon-containing input to: (a) combustible fuels, refinery feedstock or chemicals;and (b) sequesterable carbon free of hydrophobic hydrocarbons;wherein the combustible fuels, refinery feedstock or chemicals arise in separate form from the sequesterable carbon.
  2. 4
The method of any one of claims 1 to 3, further comprising blending the combustible fuels, refinery stock, or chemicals with gasoline, diesel jet fuel, kerosene, light naphtha, heavy naphtha, light cycle oil, heavy cycle oil, or combinations thereof.
  3. 5
The method of any one of claims 1 to 4, further comprising blending the combustible fuels, refinery stock, or chemicals with methanol, ethanol, propanol, isopropyl alcohol, nbutanol, t-butanol, pentanol, hexanol, butanediol, dimethyl ether, methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE), tertiary amyl methyl ether (TAME), tertiary hexyl methyl ether (THEME), ethyl tertiary butyl ether (ETBE), tertiary amyl ethyl ether (TAEE), diisopropyl ether (DIPE), or combinations thereof.
  4. 6
The method of any one of claims 1 to 5, further comprising blending the combustible fuels, refinery stock, or chemicals with detergent, combustion improver, cetane improver, -27CA 2842940 2019-02-11 emulsifier, antioxidant, antifoam agent, corrosion inhibitor, wax crystal modifier, icing inhibitor, lubricity agent, distillate flow improver, or combinations thereof.
  5. 7
The method of any one of claims 1 to 6, wherein concurrently converting a carboncontaining input to:(a) combustible fuels, refinery feedstock or chemicals;and (b) 5 sequesterable carbon free of hydrophobic hydrocarbons comprises: converting a carbon-containing input to: (a) combustible fuels, refinery feedstock or chemicals: and (b) sequesterable carbon free of hydrophobic hydrocarbons;and subjecting the sequesterable carbon to a temperature in excess of about 700ô C.
