Shut-off system for a dispenser

Abstract

A shut-off system for a dispenser (10) includes a pinch member (70) that moves relative to a guide (60) and which is normally biased against a flexible outlet tube (56) that is disposed therebetween. The flexible outlet tube (56) that carries material, such as soap, supplied from a pump (53) to an outlet nozzle (54). The pump (53) and the pinch member (70) are in operative engagement with an actuator (58), such that when the actuator (58) is not engaged, the pinch member (70) closes the outlet tube (56) to prevent residual material retained in the outlet tube from flowing or drooling out of the outlet nozzle (54). Correspondingly, when the actuator (58) is engaged, the pump (53) is compressed, and the pinch member (70) is moved away from the outlet tube (56), allowing the material to be pumped through the outlet tube (56) and dispensed from the outlet nozzle (54).

20 claims: 9 independent, 11 dependent

  1. 1
What is claimed is:1. A dispenser to dispense material from a refill container comprising: affame;a pump attached to the frame, the pump having an inlet adapted to be fluidly coupled to the refill container to allow the pump to receive material therefrom, the pump being coupled to an outlet nozzle by an outlet tube;a guide attached to the frame, the guide having a pair of spaced slots;a pinch member slideably carried by the pair of spaced slots, wherein the outlet tube is disposed between the guide and the pinch member;at least one biasing member to normally bias the pinch member to a normally biased position to compress the outlet tube closed;and an actuator movably coupled to the frame and configured to engage the pinch member prior to the pump when the actuator is engaged, wherein as the actuator is engaged, the pinch member is moved along the spaced slots from the normally biased position to open the outlet tube whereupon the material is dispensed through the outlet tube and out of the outlet nozzle.
  2. 4
The dispenser of any one of claims 1 to 3, wherein said at least one biasing member comprises a spring attached to said pinch member and to said frame.
  3. 5
The dispenser of any one of claims 1 to 4, wherein a pair of protrusions extends from said pinch member, each said protrusion configured to be received within a respective spaced slot. CA 2841982 2020-01-06
  4. 6
A method of dispensing material from a container comprising:providing a dispenser having a spring-biased pinch member that slides along a pair of spaced slots disposed in a guide member, and which is normally biased against, the dispenser including a pump to dispense material from an outlet tube that is disposed between the guide member and the pinch member, the dispenser including an actuator in operative engagement with the pump and the pinch member;biasing the pinch member to compress the outlet tube;moving the actuator;engaging the pinch member by the actuator to move the pinch member away from the outlet tube to open the outlet tube;engaging the pump by the actuator;and dispensing the material from the outlet tube and out of an outlet nozzle.
  5. 9
The dispenser of any one of claims 1 to 5, wherein the guide comprises a primary section having an end at which a support arm extends from the primary section.
  6. 10
The dispenser of any one of claims 1 to 5, wherein the guide includes a primary section having an end at which a support arm extends at a right angle from the primary section.
  7. 11
The dispenser of any one of claims 1 to 5 and 9 to 10, wherein the pinch member comprises:an elongated body having an inner surface and an outer surface and the elongated body is bounded by two lateral edges, an upper edge and a lower edge.
  8. 13
The dispenser of any one of claims 1 to 5 and 9 to 12, wherein a pair of protrusions extends from the pinch member, each protrusion of the pair of protrusions configured to be received within a respective spaced slot of the pair of spaced slots wherein:the protrusions are configured as elongated structures including a dimension that is receivable respectively through the pair of spaced slots and including another dimension, when rotated relative to said pair of spaced slots, that is not receivable respectively through said pair of spaced slots, to position, when the pinch member is rotated relative to the pair of spaced slots, a longitudinal axis of the protrusions parallel to the pair of spaced slots, and a pair of retaining members being permitted to be received respectively through the pair of spaced slots.
  9. 18
The dispenser of any one of claims 1 to 5 and 9 to 17, wherein the actuator includes an inner surface, an outer surface, a spaced upper engagement rib, and a lower engagement rib, said lower engagement rib extending from said inner surface.
