Abstract

A wound dressing, a method of manufacturing a wound dressing, and a method of treating a patient are disclosed. The wound dressing may include an absorbent layer for absorbing wound exudate; and an obscuring element for at least partially obscuring a view of wound exudate absorbed by the absorbent layer in use.

    A wound dressing for providing protection at a wound site, comprising:a wound contact layer;an absorbent layer for absorbing wound exudate, the absorbent layer positioned above the wound contact layer;an obscuring element for at least partially obscuring a view of wound exudate absorbed by the absorbent layer in use, the obscuring element positioned above the absorbent layer, wherein the obscuring element is configured to yield a CIE L* value of 50 or more;and a cover layer positioned above the obscuring element.

    A wound dressing for providing protection at a wound site, comprising:a wound contact layer;an absorbent layer for absorbing wound exudate, the absorbent layer positioned above the wound contact layer;a cover layer positioned above the absorbent layer;and an obscuring element for at least partially obscuring a view of wound exudate absorbed by the absorbent layer in use, the obscuring element comprising a masking layer;wherein the obscuring element layer is provided over a central region of the absorbent layer and not over a border region of the absorbent layer, and the obscuring element is positioned above the absorbent layer;and the cover layer is positioned above the obscuring element.

    The wound dressing of any one of claims 27 to 30, wherein the obscuring element comprises, or is coated with, a material having size-exclusion properties for selectively permitting or preventing passage of molecules of a predetermined size or weight.

    The wound dressing of any one of claims 42 to 62, wherein the absorbent layer comprises a first shape including the number of lobes, wherein the border region extends around radially outer edges of the lobes of the absorbent layer, wherein the obscuring element comprises a second shape including the number of lobes.

    A wound dressing comprising:a wound contact layer;a cover layer sealed to the wound contact layer;and an absorbent layer for absorbing wound exudate positioned between the wound contact layer and the cover layer;wherein the wound contact layer, cover layer, and absorbent layer are shaped in a conformable shape including a plurality of sub-areas, wherein the sub areas define areas of the wound dressing that are formable in different directions with respect to each other;wherein the conformable shape has rotational symmetry around a center point of the conformable shape.

    The wound dressing of any one of claims 66 to 75, further comprising at least one layer positioned between the absorbent layer and the wound contact layer;wherein a dimension of the absorbent layer is larger than a dimension of the at least one layer such that a radially outer region of the absorbent layer forms an enclosure with the wound contact layer around the at least one layer.
