A packet structure for a mobile display digital interface

Abstract

A packet structure for a Mobile Display Digital Interface (MDDI) includes a flexible sub-frame length to efficiently transmit large packets. A windowless video stream packet avoids repetitive transmissions of video packets when some parameters are unchanged, saving bandwidth. An enhanced reverse encapsulation packet combines the feature of a separate round trip delay packet with a separate reverse encapsulation packet. A link freeze is used to halt a transmission of a data stream at any point in the transmission and resume the transmission by a host.

  1. 1
    CLAIMS:1. A method of sending a flexible video data packet over a transmission link that couples a client and a host within an electronic device, the method comprising the steps of: inserting a packet contents field in a video data packet, each bit in the packet contents field indicating which of at least one corresponding field is present in the video data packet, comprising creating the flexible video data packet;detecting that a missing field is not present in the flexible video data packet based on bits of the packet contents field;determining that the value of the missing field has remained the same as the last time the missing field was transmitted in a previous flexible video packet data, wherein repeated retransmission of the missing field is avoided when the value of the missing field has remained the same;and sending the flexible video data packet by the host to the client.
  2. 2
    A system for sending a flexible video data packet over a transmission link that couples a client and a host within an electronic device, the system comprising:means for inserting a packet contents field in a video data packet, each bit in the packet contents field indicating which of at least one corresponding field is present in the video data packet, comprising means for creating the flexible video data packet;means for detecting that a missing field is not present in the flexible video data packet based on bits of the packet contents field;means for determining that the value of the missing field has remained the same as the last time the missing field was transmitted in a previous flexible video packet data, wherein repeated retransmission of the missing field is avoided when the value of the missing field has remained the same;and CA 02808296 2015-05-06 74769-2637D2 means for sending the flexible video data packet by the host to the client.
  3. 3
    A computer program product, comprising:computer readable storage medium having computer executable code stored thereon comprising:
  4. 4
    5 code for causing a flexible video data packet to be sent over a transmission link that couples a client and a host within an electronic device, the computer code comprising:code for causing a packet contents field in a video data packet to be inserted, each bit in the packet contents field indicating which of at least one corresponding field is present in the video data packet, comprising creation of the flexible video data packet;
  5. 5
    10 code for detecting that a missing field is not present in the flexible video data packet based on bits of the packet contents field;code for determining that the value of the missing field has remained the same as the last time the missing field was transmitted in a previous flexible video packet data, wherein repeated retransmission of the missing field is avoided when the value of the missing 15 field has remained the same;and code for causing the flexible video data packet to be sent by the host to the client.
