Method and apparatus for controlling diffusion and color of a light beam

Abstract

A light fixture (100) including a flexible diffusion material (310) coupled to a scrolling mechanism (110) capable of positioning a selected portion of the diffusion material in a light beam (112) from a light source (102). Different portions (O-T) of the diffusion material (310) provide differing amounts of diffusion. The scrolling mechanism (110) may be remotely operated to produce a desired amount of diffusion in the light beam. The light fixture (100) may also include one or more additional scrolling mechanisms (106, 108) coupled to flexible color filter material (306, 308), such that the light beam (112) may be filtered to a desired color. The additional scrolling mechanisms (106, 108) may be remotely operated to produce color filtration of a predetermined color or saturation. A non-scrolling holographic diffusion material (1206) may be removably mounted to a light fixture (1100) having a scrolling mechanisms (1106) coupled to flexible color filter material.

  1. 1
CA 02610337 2013-01-16 WHAT IS CLAIMED IS:1. A light fixture, comprising: a light source;a first flexible material coupled to a first scrolling mechanism, the first scrolling mechanism operable to position a selected area of the first flexible material across an upper half of an aperture such that a beam of light from the light source passes through the selected area of the first flexible material, wherein the first flexible material comprises first and second areas producing corresponding first and second predetermined amounts of diffusion of the beam of light;and a second flexible material coupled to a second scrolling mechanism, the second scrolling mechanism operable to position a selected area of the second flexible material across a bottom half of the aperture such that at least a part of the beam of light passes through the selected area of the second flexible material, wherein the second flexible material comprises first and second areas causing corresponding first and second predetermined amounts of color filtration of the beam of light.
