Abstract

The invention relates to a method for the operation of a near field communication multifunction device in environments where interaction is desired between near field communication capable devices using multiple data formats, compromising the operations of performing a first initiation procedure for a first data format according to a protocol of a certain standard; performing a second initiation procedure for a second data format according to a protocol of a certain standard; performing a delay, and repeating these operations in a repetitive process.

    CA 02579181 2016-03-18 What is claimed is:1 A method for avoiding lock out conditions during connection set up between near field communication devices each being capable to be operated as a reader, said method comprising the succession of steps: performing a first initiation procedure in a first data format according to a first protocol, comprising: sending a first radio frequency signal sequence of the first initiation procedure for a first predetermined period of time with a first output power of the first initiation procedure;activating a receiver for receiving data signals after said sending said first radio frequency signal sequence;and sending a second radio frequency signal sequence of the first initiation procedure for a second predetermined period of time with a second output power of the first initiation procedure, if no data signal has been received, after activating said receiver;performing a second initiation procedure in a second data format according to a second protocol, comprising: - sending a first radio frequency signal sequence of the second initiation procedure for a first predetermined period of time with a first output power of the second initiation procedure;activating a receiver for receiving data signals after said sending said first radio frequency signal sequence;and sending a second radio frequency signal sequence of the second initiation procedure for a second predetermined period of time with a second output power of the second initiation procedure, if no data signal has been received, after activating said receiver;waiting for a changing random length delay period, and detecting wake up signals from other near field communication devices during said delay period;and repeating these operations in this succession in a repetitive process.

The method according to any one of claims 1 to 3, wherein said waiting for a changing random length delay period comprises waiting for a plurality of delay periods and wherein at least one of said delay periods is a delay period of a fixed length of time and at least one of said delay periods is a delay period of a random length of time.

    5. The method according to any one of claims 1 to 4, further comprising evaluating received data signals according to timing of at least one data format, if a data signal has been received.

    6. The method according to any one of claims 1 to 5, wherein said method is performed during connection set up between near field communication multifonction devices, each comprising near field communication devices.

The method according to any one of claims 1 to 6, wherein one of said protocols is at least one of:a near-field communication device tag emulation mode;a near-field communication device target mode;and a near-filed communication device initiator mode, wherein at least one of said data formats is one of FeliCa, MiFare, ultra-light, and ICode.

    8. A computer readable medium storing a computer program having program code for execution by a computer or a network device to carry out the method of any one of claims 1 to 7.

A module capable of preventing lock out conditions during connection set up between near field communication devices each capable to be operated as a reader, said module comprising:a transceiver for receiving radio signals and transmitting radio signals;and a processing unit coupled to said transceiver, wherein said processing unit is configured to execute the following steps in this succession: to perform a first initiation procedure in a first data format according to a first protocol, comprising: CA 02579181 2016-03-18 sending a first radio frequency signal sequence of the first initiation procedure for a first predetermined period of time with a first output power of the first initiation procedure;activating a receiver for receiving data signals after said sending said first radio frequency signal sequence;and sending a second radio frequency signal sequence of the first initiation procedure for a second predetermined period of time with a second output power of the first initiation procedure, if no data signal has been received, after activating said receiver;to perform a second initiation procedure in a second data format according to a second protocol, comprising: sending a first radio frequency signal sequence of the second initiation procedure for a first predetermined period of time with a first output power of the second initiation procedure;activating a receiver for receiving data signals after said sending said first radio frequency signal sequence;and sending a second radio frequency signal sequence of the second initiation procedure for a second predetermined period of time with a second output power of the second initiation procedure, if no data signal has been received, after activating said receiver;to wait for a changing random length delay period, and to detect wake up signals from other near field communication devices during said delay period;and to repeat these operations in this succession in a repetitive process.

    10. The module of claim 9, further comprising a memory unit connected to said processing unit, wherein said memory unit is configured for storing at least the first data format according to said first protocol, and the second data format according to said second protocol.

A method performed by a near field communication device, the method comprising:performing a first reader mode initiation procedure in a first data format according to a first protocol;performing a second reader mode initiation procedure in a second data format according to a second protocol;performing a delay;and performing any of these operations in a repetitive process, wherein said delay comprises a plurality of delays including at least one fixed delay period and at least one share/exchange state lockout prevention random delay period, and wherein said at least one share/exchange state lockout prevention random delay period randomizes periodicity of share/exchange state.

    16. The method according to claim 15, further comprising performing a first passive detection procedure in a tag emulation mode in at least the first data format or the second data format.

A near field communication device, comprising:a transceiver configured to receive signals in at least one radio frequency band and to transmit signals in said radio frequency band;and a processor coupled to said transceiver, wherein said processor is configured to: perform a first reader mode initiation procedure in a first data format according to a first protocol;perform a second reader mode initiation procedure in a second data format according to a second protocol;perform a delay;and perform any of these operations in a repetitive process, wherein said delay comprises a plurality of delays including at least one fixed delay period and at least one share/exchange state lockout prevention random delay period, and wherein said at least one share/exchange state lockout prevention random delay period randomizes periodicity of share/exchange state.
