Excitation vector generator, speech coder and speech decoder

Abstract

New random excitation vectors are generated using anexcitation vector generator, a speech coder or a speechdecoder comprising an excitation vector processing unit, byperforming different processes on at least two previousexcitation vectors in accordance with externally suppliedindices. The different processes are different combinationsof a plurality of specific processes and the externallysupplied indices are numbers for indicating randomcombinations of the plurality of specific processes so as togenerate the new random excitation vectors. This makes itunnecessary to store fixed vectors as they are in a fixedcodebook (ROM), thereby considerably reducing the memorycapacity.
