Pulse output function for programmable logic controller

Abstract

A method for providing controlled movement is provided. A method comprises obtaining a first frequency and a second frequency. The method also comprises creating a table of values comprising a plurality of target frequencies intermediate to the first and second frequencies, the table of values also comprising a pulse width, a pulse count, and a differential pulse width corresponding to each of the target frequencies from the plurality of target frequencies. The method further comprises outputting at least a portion of the values to a motion device. Thus, the present invention provides an improved method, enabling maximum motion parameters to be set and reducing the size and cost of control devices required for effective motion control.

CA 02472018 2006-10-24 CLAIMS:1. A method of providing controlled movement, from a first position to a second position, comprising the steps of: defining a maximum motion parameter for a planned movement between the first position and the second position;rendering a corresponding motion control profile;creating a table of values comprising a plurality of target pulse frequencies for application to a motion device so as to cause the motion device to perform the planned movement according to the motion control profile, the table of values also comprising a pulse width, a pulse count, and a differential pulse width corresponding to each of the target pulse frequencies, wherein the plurality of target pulse frequencies are semi-logarithmically distributed;and outputting pulses corresponding to at least a portion of the values from a pulse generator to the motion device.
