Tension measured fishing line bite detector alarm

Abstract

A battery powered fishing line bite detector alarm (20)producing visible and/or audible alarm signals is disclosed. An arm (96), installed within the alarm, integrally connectsto a modified leaf on-off switch (66). The alarm attaches to afishing rod (33) in front of a fishing reel (35) mounted onthe rod. Fishing line (38) is threaded into the arm andadjusted such that slack is provided between the rear of thealarm and the front of the reel thereby allowing forward armmovement. The fishing line is further inserted until desiredresistance of forward and backward line movement within thearm is achieved. Applied tension to the line forces the arm toactuate. A tension spring clip (84) connected to a switchlever (78), and a common leaf contact arm (76), pulls contactarm closer to an upper common contact point (74) until contactis made activating the alarm signals. Increased tensioningpulls the line through a variable sized slit (110) and into aline hole (100B), releasing tension on the arm and causing thecontact arm and contact point to break contact, while allowingthe arm to return to a self-adjusting alarm ceasing position.
