Process for improving flowability of olefins during gas-phase (co-)polymerisation in a fluidised bed reactor incorporating process aid additives

Abstract

The present invention relates to a process for the gas-phase (co-)polymerisation of olefins in a fluidised bed reactor using a metallocene catalyst characterised in that the polymerisation is performed in the presence of a process aid additive.

CA 02372540 2009-09-18 CLAIMS:1. A process for improving the flowability of ethylene (co-)polymer or fludization characteristics of ethylene (co-)polymer during a continuous gas-phase (co-)polymerization of ethylene in a polymerization zone of a fluidised bed reactor using a metallocene catalyst and a cocatalyst in the presence of a process aid additive, wherein the additive comprises the components: (1) a polysulfone copolymer, (2) a polymeric polyamine, and (3) an oil-soluble sulfonic acid.
  2. 4
The process of any one of claims 1 to 3, wherein the process aid additive comprises about 5-70 weight percent (1), 5-70 weight percent (2), and 5-70 weight percent (3).
  3. 5
The process of any one of claims 1 to 4, wherein the process aid additive represents from about 0.3 to about 70 parts by weight per million parts by weight of the total ethylene or total ethylene and comonomer introduced into the reactor.
  4. 6
The process of any one of claims 1 to 5, wherein the reactor is pre-loaded with the process aid additive before the metallocene catalyst is introduced into the reactor. CA 02372540 2009-09-18
  5. 8
The process of any one of claims 1 to 7, wherein ethylene and a comonomer are polymerized and the comonomer is but-l-ene, hex-l-ene or 4-methylpent-l-ene.
