Packet filtering

Abstract

A method of filtering a packet data stream as transmitted in a digital audiovisual trans-mission system characterised in that transport packet data is filtered at a first stage by a dig-ital filter (42) according to the characteristics of the transport packet header, selected filtered data being then passed directly to a memory el-ement (44) within the receiver/decoder. In a second aspect, the method comprises filtering a packet data stream characterised in that trans-port packet data is filtered at a first stage by a first digital filter (42) according to the charac-teristics of the transport packet header, selected filtered data from the payload corresponding to a continuous flux of data then being passed to a second digital filter (45) for a second stage of filtering.

  1. 1
CA 02309728 2006-10-24 - 16 CLAIMS 1. A method of filtering a packet data stream as transmitted in an digital audiovisual transmission system and received by a receiver/decoder. wherein received first transport packet data containing data in the form of packet stream data is filtered by a digital filter according to the characteristics of the transport packet header, the selected filtered data being passed by the filter directly to a memory element within the receiver/decoder for storage in the form of a complete transport packet including the packet header and payload, and second transport packet data containing data in the form of packet stream data is filtered in parallel to said first transport packet data according to the value of the packet ID. to divide out the payload from a received packet, the payload being sent in real time to one or more corresponding processor elements.
  2. 4
A method of filtering a packet data stream as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 3. in which the first transport packet data is transmitted in packets of fixed size, the memory element having the same size as the fixed packet size.
  3. 5
A method of filtering a packet data stream as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 4, in which data contained within the payload of a transport packet is itself organised in the form of secondary packets of data each with a header and a payload. CA 02309728 2006-10-24
  4. 7
A method of filtering a packet data stream as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 6. in which the data contained in the payloads of the first transport packet data stream corresponds to a continuous flux of data.
  5. 8
A method of filtering a packet data stream as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 7, in which the transmitted data is organised in an MPEG format.
  6. 10
A method of filtering a packet data stream as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 9. in which the digital filter may also pass selected data from the payload of a transport packet to a processor for execution.
  7. 11
A method of filtering a packet data stream as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 10, in which the digital filter may also pass selected data from the payload of a transport packet to a second digital filter.
  8. 15
A method of filtering a packet data stream as claimed in any one of claims 12 to 14, in which sections contained within the payload of a transport packet are filtered according to the value of the section header.
  9. 16
A receiver/decoder for a digital audiovisual transmission system, said receiver/decoder comprising a first digital filter for filtering first transport packet data, received by the receiver/decoder and containing data in the form of packet stream data, according to the characteristics of the transport packet header, and passing selected filtered data directly to a memory element for storage in the form of a complete transport packet including the packet header and payload, and a second digital filter for filtering, in parallel to said first transport packet data, second transport packet data, received by the receiver/decoder and containing data in the form of packet stream data, according to the value of the packet ID, to divide out the payload from a received packet, and passing the payload in real time to one or more corresponding processor elements.
  10. 19
Λ receiver/decoder as claimed in any of one of claims 16 to 18. in which the memory element has the same size as a fixed packet size of the received transport packet data.
  11. 20
A receiver/decoder as claimed in any one of claims 16 to 19. in which the first digital filter is arranged to pass selected data from the payload of a transport packet to a processor for execution.
  12. 21
A receiver/decoder as claimed in any one of claims 16 to 20. in which the first digital filter is arranged to pass selected data from the payload of a transport packet to a third filter.
