A composition according to Claim 1, wherein said composition of matter comprises: at least one of said branched carboxylic acid of (a);at least one of said branched carboxylic acid of (b);and at least one of said branched carboxylic acid of (h). 3. A composition according to Claim 1, wherein said composition of matter comprises: at least one of said branched carboxylic acid of (a);at least one of said branched carboxylic acid of (c);at least one of said branched carboxylic acid of (f);and at least one of said branched carboxylic acid of (g). 4. A composition according to Claim 1, wherein said composition of matter comprises: at least one of said branched carboxylic acid of (a);at least one of said branched carboxylic acid of (b);at least one of said branched carboxylic acid of (c);at least one of said branched carboxylic acid of (f);and at least one of said branched carboxylic acid of (g). 5. A composition according to Claim 1, wherein said composition of matter comprises: at least one of said branched carboxylic acid of (a);at least one of said branched carboxylic acid of (b);at least one of said branched carboxylic acid of (c);at least one of said branched carboxylic acid of (f);at least one of said branched carboxylic acid of (g);and at least one of said branched carboxylic acid of (h). 6. A composition according to Claim 1 comprising a mixture of said branched carboxylic acid, said mixture being substantially free from quaternary-carbon containing branched carboxylic acid or their salts or derivatives. A composition according to Claim 1 comprising a mixture of said branched carboxylic acid, including at least one of said branched carboxylic acid and at least one branched carboxylic acid having an even total number of carbon atoms. 8. A composition according to Claim 1 comprising a mixture of said branched carboxylic acid, each of said branched carboxylic acid having a total of from 13 carbon atoms to 19 carbon atoms. 9. A composition according to Claim 1 comprising a mixture of said branched carboxylic acid wherein any alkyl substituent in any of said branched carboxylic acid is methyl. 10. A cleaning composition comprising: (i) from about 0.05% to about 99.9%, by weight of a composition of matter according to Claim 1;and (ii) from about 0.0001 to about 99.99%, by weight of conventional cleaning additive. 11. A skin care composition comprising: (i) from about 0.05% to about 99.9%, by weight of a composition of matter according to Claim 1 ;and (ii) from about 0.0001 to about 99.99%, by weight of a conventional skin care additive. 12. A personal cleansing composition comprising: (i) from about 0.05% to about 99.9%, by weight of a composition of matter according to Claim 1;and (ii) from about 0.0001 to about 99.99%, by weight of a conventional personal cleansing additive. 13. A paper article comprising at least about 0.0001% by weight of said composition of matter according to Claim 1. 14. A composition according to Claim 1 comprising no more than about 0.1% aldehyde impurity. 15. A composition according to Claim 1 comprising no more than about 0.1% unsaturated impurity. The fabric softening active of Claim 19 having a phase transition temperature of less than about 50°C. 23. The fabric softening active of Claim 22 having a phase transition temperature of less than about 35°C. 24. The fabric softening active of Claim 23 having a phase transition temperature of less than about 20°C. 25. A fabric softening composition comprising:A) from about 2% to about 80%, by weight of the composition, of said fabric softener active according to Claim 19;B) optionally, an effective amount to improve clarity, but less than about 40%, by weight of the composition of principal solvent having a ClogP of from about 2.0 to about 2.6;C) optionally, an effective amount, sufficient to improve clarity, of low molecular weight water soluble solvent selected from the group consisting of ethanol, isopropanol, propylene glycol, 1,3-propanediol, propylene carbonate, and mixtures thereof, said water soluble solvents being at a level that will not form clear compositions by themselves;D) optionally, an effective amount to improve clarity, of water soluble calcium and/or magnesium salt;and E) optionally, the balance being water.
