Surgical drape and suction head for wound treatment

Abstract

A suction head for applying suction to a wound area comprises a first face having a substantially planar flange and a connector. The connector is adapted to connect to a suction tube. A second face has a plurality of projections. An aperture is provided from the second face, through the flange and to the connector on the first face. The projections define a plurality of channels that are adapted to facilitate fl ow of fluids from about the second face toward the aperture.

CA 02303085 2004-08-26 THE EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTION IN WHICH AN EXC LUSIVE PROPERTY OR PRIVILEGE IS CLAIMED ARE DEFINED AS FOLLOWS:1. A suction head for applying suction to a wound area, said suction head comprising: a first face having a substantially planar flange and a connector, said connector being adapted to connect to a suction tube;a second face having a plurality of projections;an aperture from said second face, through said flange and to said connector on said first face;and wherein said projections define a plurality of channels, said channels being adapted to facilitate flow of fluids from about said second face toward said aperture.

The suction head as recited in daim 3, wherein said surgical drape further comprises a plastic strengthening film, said strengthening film being less flexible than said adhesive-coated plastic film and being adapted to rigidity stud adhesive-coated plastic film.
  3. 11
A wound dressing for distributing fluid across a wound surface, comprising:a suction head having a first face;a second face opposite said first face;a plurality of projections coincident from said second face, wherein said projections form a contact surface with the wound surface, and wherein a plurality of channels for facilitating flow of fluids are defined between said projections, said channels remaining out of contact with the wound surface;and an aperture in fluid communication with said channels formed by said projections and formed through said first face and said second face.
