Coding system and decoding system

Abstract

The problems of pseudo-synchronization and out-of synchronization caused by erroneous detection of synchronization codes of anencoder in which an error correction/detection coding and a synchronism restoring method using synchronization codes. There are provideda coding unit (212) for encoding a sequence of inputted multiplex codes (201 ) into error correction/detection codes comprising informationbits and inspection bits; and a code sequence assembling unit (213) for assembling a sequence of output codes (205) by inserting asynchronization code into any of a plurality of periodically predetermined synchronization code insertion positions in the code sequence(201) and by arranging the information bits in arbitrary positions in the code sequence and the inspection bits in positions other than thesynchronization code insertion positions in the code sequence (201).

A coding system comprising:multiplexing means for multiplexing kinds of variable-length compressed codes, which are obtained by compression coding an input signal, to produce a multiplexed code string;and code string assembling means for inputting said multiplexed code string to assemble an output code string, for determining one of a plurality of synchronization code inserting positions at predetermined periodic intervals in said output string, based on code lengths of the compressed codes, and for inserting a synchronization code into the determined synchronization code inserting position, and suitably inserting a stuffing bit into said output code string.
  3. 3
A coding system comprising:multiplexing means for multiplexing kinds of variable-length compressed codes, which are obtained by compression coding an input signal, to produce a multiplexed code string;and CA 02249540 2005-04-21 20375-832 -78code string assembling means for inputting said multiplexed code string to assemble an output code string, for determining one of a plurality of synchronization code inserting positions at predetermined periodic intervals in said output string, based on code lengths of the compressed codes, and for predetermining a plurality of synchronization code inserting positions arranged periodically in said output code string, inserting information indicating a boundary of said multiplexed code string, and inserting a synchronization code into the determined synchronization code inserting position.
  4. 4
A coding system as set forth in any one of claims 1 through 3, wherein said multiplexing means multiplexes a compressed code, which is as compression coded for each of frames or segments of the frames of an input image signal, for each of said frames or said segments of the frame, and wherein said code string assembling means inserts a synchronization code into a synchronization code inserting position immediately before or after the end portion of each synchronization unit constituted by multiplexing each of the frames of the multiplexed code string or segments of the frames.
  5. 5
A coding system as set forth in any one of claims 1 through 3, which further comprises code string transforming means for transforming a code string other than said synchronization code, which is arranged at said synchronization code inserting position in said output code string, so that a Hamming distance from said synchronization code is equal to or greater than a predetermined value.
  6. 7
A coding system as set forth in any one of claims 1 through 3, wherein said multiplexing means produces a multiplexed code string by multiplexing said compressed code string for each of a plurality of layers, and said code string assembling means inputs said multiplexed code string to add a synchronization code to at least a part of said plurality of layers to produce an output code.
