Catalyst for the selective oxidation of sulfur compounds to elemental sulfur, method for the preparation of such catalyst, and method for the selective oxidation of sulfur compounds to elemental sulfur

Abstract

The invention relates to a catalyst on support for the selective oxidation of sulfur-containing compounds to elemental sulfur, comprisingat least one catalytically active material that is present on a support material, wherein the catalytically active material consists at least partlyof a mixed oxide with an oxidic lattice, in which at least two metals in the form of ions are included.

CA 02248129 2005-01-17 CLAIMS :1. A catalyst on a support for the selective oxidation of sulfur-containing compounds to elemental sulfur, comprising at least one catalytically active material in an amount from 0.1 to 50% by weight, calculated on the total mass of the catalyst, that is present on a support material, wherein the catalytically active material comprises a mixed oxide with an oxidic lattice, in which at least two metals in the form of ions are included, wherein the first metal is capable of changing its valence under the conditions of said selective oxidation, wherein the second metal cannot, or only with difficulty, change its valence under the conditions of said selective oxidation.
  2. 17
A catalyst on a support for the selective oxidation of sulfur-containing compounds to elemental sulfur, comprising at least one catalytically active material comprising a mixed iron and zinc oxide present on a support material, wherein the catalyst is prepared by:contacting the support material with a solution comprising ammonium zinc citrate and ammonium iron citrate and an amount of ammonium chloride that is between about 0.1 and about 20 weight percent of the metal ions in said solution, to produce a support material impregnated with the ammonium iron citrate and ammonium zinc citrate salts and ammonium chloride;drying the impregnated support material;and calcining the impregnated support material, wherein the catalytically active material is present on the support in an amount of 0.1 to 50% by weight, calculated on the total mass of the catalyst.
  3. 28
A method for the preparation of a catalyst containing mixed metal oxides supported on a support material, comprising the steps of:contacting the support material with a solution comprising ammonium metal citrate salts and CA 02248129 2005-01-17 an amount of ammonium chloride that is between about 0.1 and about 20 weight percent of the metal ions in said solution, to produce a support material impregnated with ammonium metal citrate salts and ammonium chloride;drying the impregnated support material;and calcining the impregnated support material.
