A technique for substantially eliminating temperature induced measurement errors from a coriolis meter

Abstract

Apparatus and accompanying methods for inclusionin a Coriolis meter that substantially eliminatetemperature induced measurement errors which mightotherwise be produced by performance differences existingbetween the separate input channels contained in the meter.Specifically, two pairs of input channels are used in themeter. In operation, the meter repetitively measures theinternal phase delay of each of these pairs and thensubtracts the delay associated with each pair from actualflow based measurement data subsequently obtainedtherefrom. While one channel pair is measuring actualflow, the other channel pair is measuring its internalphase delay, with the channels being continuously cycledbetween these functions. Because both channel pairs arecycled at a sufficiently rapid rate, the current value ofthe internal phase delay for each of the pairs accuratelyreflects any temperature induced changes then occurring inthe performance of that pair thereby eliminatingsubstantially all temperature induced error components fromthe flow measurements subsequently obtained therefrom. Inaddition, the meter measures flow tube temperature in amanner that removes temperature induced errors therefrom.
