Method for facilitating the dialog between a subscriber to a system of pay-television and a decoder of the signals received and decoder of these signals

Abstract

The decoder comprises a microprocessor connected to areceiver of data of teletext and to a text generator fordisplaying informations on the screen of the televisionreceiver. Further, a card said CPTV-card(card pay-television) is associated to the microprocessor, this cardmanaging the credit necessary for the purchase ofemissions, for the memorization of the emissions purchased andfor permitting the unscrambling of the emissions purchasedby delivering to the microprocessor the input pointer inthe sequence which is calculated by the microprocessor bymeans of the information which has been memorized as wellas the information delivered by the decoder. The programsof the forecasted emissions are transmitted by the headstation and memorized in the microprocessor of the decoder.Another memory of the microprocessor contains theinstructions for the manipulations to be effected for selectingan emission and for purchasing it as well as for recharginga credit in the CPTV-card. A keyboard permits to select andto display on the screen of the television receiver theforecasted emissions as well as the instructions ofmanipulation which enormously facilitates the dialog betweenthe user and the decoder and contributes to avoid errors ofmanipulation. The decoder according to the inventionoperates as a guide for the user, for all operations to beeffected.

THE EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTION IN WHICH AN EXCLUSIVE PROPERTY OR PRIVILEGE IS CLAIMED ARE DEFINED AS FOLLOWS:1. A decoder for a pay-TV system comprising a memory arranged to receive a video signal scrambled by line permutation, in which each line is segmented and digitalized into a number of samples, and means for descrambling the memorized video signal according to a variable descrambling code, characterized in that said memory is constituted of a number of buffer lines, for example 32 lines, wherein said samples are sequentially introduced into successive cells, each buffer line being constituted of as many cells as are necessary to store the number of samples of one line of the video signal, the entry of each sample in a cell of the buffer causing outputting of the sample previously memorized in the same cell, such that the memory always remains filled with its number of lines, and each buffer line is always filled with the number of samples that it can contain, the order of extraction of the memorized buffer lines to carry out descrambling being determined by the selection, from the buffer lines, of those buffer lines which permit depermutation of the lines, said selection being controlled by the descrambling code.
