System for installing parts on workpiece

Abstract

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A parts installing system installs a plurality ofparts on a workpiece substantially simultaneously. Thesystem includes a parts stocker for stocking a cluster ofsubstantially closely arranged parts thereon, and a partstransfer device for transferring the parts from the partsstocker to a prescribed position over the workpiece andsetting the transferred parts over the workpiece. Theparts transfer device includes a parts spreading mechanismunit which picks up the clustered parts from the partsstocker and spreads them into respective relative positionscorresponding respectively to relative positions which willbe taken by the parts set on the workpiece. The systemalso includes a pressing device for pressing the parts setover the workpiece onto the workpiece, and a bolt fasteningdevice for fastening the pressed parts to the workpiecewith bolts. The parts installing system is suitable foruse on various automated production lines to achieve a highrate of production. For example, the parts installingsystem is particularly advantageous when employed on anengine assembling line for installing camshaft holders on acylinder head, and also for installing bearing caps on acylinder head.
