Invention Patent Descriptive Report for CONNECTING SET.
Field of the Invention
The present invention relates, in general, to a connector assembly. More particularly, the presentation refers to a sterile connector assembly.
Background of the Invention
The large-scale production of pharmaceutical fluids for use in medicinal applications, as well as food products, depends on maintaining the cleanliness of the environment. Exposure of products to bacteria or contaminating media results in reduced quality and, in some cases, toxic by-products. Therefore, manufacturers of medicinal and food products have been trying to reduce points of contamination and have started to use coupling tubes and connectors as part of the effort to keep the environment clean.
In part, manufacturers started to use sealed connectors. However, the typical seals on such connectors are removed before use, resulting in a possible exposure of the fluid to the environment. Manufacturers have also tried to use seals that can be punctured, so removal before use is unnecessary. However, the design of such seals introduces the seals into the fluid path. As such, one may wish to use improved connectors.
summary
In a particular embodiment, a connector includes a stem that defines a fluid passage through it, a housing that surrounds the stem and defines an opening, and a valve arranged over the opening. The rod is configured to engage, by means of fitting, a complementary structure located in a complementary connector. The housing is configured to engage a complementary housing for the complementary connector. The valve is configured to align with the complementary valve when the housing engages the complementary housing.
In another embodiment, a connector includes a first housing that defines an opening configured to engage a second complementary housing of a complementary connector, a first valve arranged over the opening and a sealing structure configured to engage a stem of the complementary connector after engaging the first and second accommodations. The first valve is configured to align with a second complementary valve when the first housing engages the second housing.
In another exemplary embodiment, a sterile connector assembly for mounting on a fluid system includes a first connector and a second connector. The first connector includes a stem that defines a fluid passage through there, a first housing that surrounds the stem and defines a first opening, and a first valve arranged over the first opening. The second connector includes a second housing configured to engage, in the form of a socket, the first housing. The second housing defines a second opening and a sealing structure. The sealing structure is configured to engage the rod. The second connector also includes a second valve arranged over the second opening. The second valve is configured to engage the first valve when the first housing engages the second housing.
In a further example, a fluid system includes a first fluid container coupled to a distal end of a first housing of a first connector. The end near the first housing defines a first opening. A first valve is arranged over the first opening. The close end also defines a sealing structure. The fluid system also includes a second fluid container coupled to a second connector rod. The second connector includes the rod and a second housing. An end close to the second housing is configured to engage the first housing in a snap-fit manner. The stem defines a fluid passage through it. The second housing surrounds the stem and defines a second opening. A second valve is arranged over the second opening. The second valve is configured to align with the first valve when the first housing engages the second housing. The rod is configured to engage the sealing structure of the first housing after engaging the first and second housings.

Detailed Description of Drawings
In an exemplary embodiment, a connector includes plug connectors that can be coupled together and to various fluid conduit systems to provide a fluid path between the fluid systems. The connector assembly provides a clean environment for fluid to flow between containers or conduits and prevent contamination from entering the fluid path.
In an embodiment illustrated in figures 1,2,3,4 and 5, the connector assembly includes two connectors 10 and 20. The first connector includes a housing 100 that defines a sealing structure 130 and a coupling 420. The second connector 20 includes a housing 200 surrounding the stem 230. In one example, the stem 230 is configured to move axially with respect to the housing 200. The stem 230 may include a coupling 320. When the first connector 10 and the second connector 20 are coupled, the first and second couplings (100 and 200) are configured to close together and the stem 230 is configured to engage the sealing structure 130 to define a fluid passage through the coupling assembly. For directional guidance, each connector (10 and 20), and its associated housings (100 and 200) have an illustrated end nearest to the opposite connector and a distant end, farthest from the opposite connector. The ends near the first housing 100 and the second housing 200 are dimensioned for snap-fit engagement. In one embodiment, the first housing 100 has an inner diameter and a second housing 200 has an outer diameter, wherein the inner diameter of the first housing 100 is greater than the outer diameter of the second housing 200 to provide a friction fit. In an alternative embodiment, the first housing 100 has an outer diameter and the second housing 200 has an inner diameter, wherein the inner diameter of the second housing 200 is greater than the outer diameter of the first housing 100 to provide a friction fit.
In one embodiment, the first housing 100 and the second housing 200 may include an engaging mechanism adapted to engage the first housing 100 in a predetermined relationship with the second housing 200. In one example, the engaging mechanism may have any configuration suitable for prevent axial movement of the first housing 100 and the second housing 200 when they are engaged in engagement. The latching mechanism can also be configured to prevent the first housing 100 and the second housing 200 from rotating when they are engaged in engagement. Exemplary coupling mechanisms include a screw connection, or tongue and groove connections. In one example, as shown in Figure 1, the first housing 100 includes an inner side wall with a groove 110 along at least part of the circumference of the side wall. One or more grooves 110 include an outside diameter. The outer diameter of the second housing 200 includes one or more tabs 210 that extend beyond the periphery of the outer diameter. Thus, when the second housing 200 and the first housing 100 are engaged in the form of
