Pharma-informatics system

Abstract

Compositions, systems and methods that allow for the detection of the actual physical delivery of a pharmaceutical agent to a body are provided. Embodiments of the compositions include an identifier and an active agent. The invention finds use in a variety of different applications, including but not limited to, monitoring of therapeutic regimen compliance, tracking the history of pharmaceutical agents, etc.

12 claims: 9 independent, 3 dependent

  1. 1
What is claimed is:1. A composition comprising: an active agent;5 an identifier configured to emit a signal;and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, wherein said identifier comprises an activator and a signal generation element, the activator configured to activate the signal generation element to emit said signal, which activator activates the signal generation element when it contacts a 10 targeted site, and wherein at least part ofthe identifier is soluble in aqueous solutions,
  2. 4
Composition as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein the activator comprises a power source comprising two electrodes shielded by the 25 pharmaceutically acceptable carrier and wherein the carrier is arranged to expose the electrodes and come in contact with bodily fluid when the carrier is dissolved or eroded in order to turn on the power source.
  3. 5
Composition as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein the 30 activator comprises a power source powered by electrochemical reactions.
  4. 6
Composition as claimed in any claims, wherein the active agent is present in the pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. 2006239221 02 Dec 2011
  5. 7
Composition as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein the identifier comprises an integrated circuit connected to a first metal forming an anode and to a second metal forming a cathode, so as to power the integrated circuit by electrochemical reaction.
