Vehicle ignition interlock systems that detect the presence of alcohol within vehicles

A system (10) locking the ignition of a vehicle, comprising: a breath analyzer (20) located inside a vehicle (40), wherein the breath analyzer (20) is configured to detect alcohol levels breath of a driver of the vehicle, and wherein the breath analyzer (20) is configured to detect the presence of alcohol within the vehicle (40); and a controller (34) operably connected to the breath analyzer (20) and an ignition system (48) of the vehicle (40), wherein the controller (34) is configured to compare the levels detected breath alcohol of the vehicle operator with a threshold value, and wherein the controller (34) is configured to prevent vehicle ignition if a level of breath alcohol detected by the breath analyzer (2 0) is greater than or equal to threshold value, and wherein the controller (34) is configured to trigger a test breath alcohol of the vehicle operator via the breath analyzer (20) in response to detection of the presence of alcohol within the vehicle ( 40).
