Ion-conducting sulfonated polymeric materials

Abstract

This sulfonation polymer is manufactured by carrying out direct polymerization of the sulfonation monomer, and forming a sulfonation polymer. Polysulfone or polyimide may be mentioned to these kinds of sulfonation polymers. These sulfonation polymers can be formed in a film, and this is a proton exchange film fuel cell, or may be used as an ion-exchange membrane. The film formed from these sulfonation polymers shows the characteristic improved rather than Nafion (registered trademark). Heteropoly acid is added by this sulfonation polymer and the nano composite material by which this heteropoly acid was fully distributed may be formed in it. Addition of the heteropoly acid to this sulfonation polymer improves the heat stability of this film, and raises the conductivity in a temperature higher than 100 °C, and reduces taking in of membranous water.
