An implant device for applying compression across a fracture site field of the invention

Abstract

An implant (1) for fixing a fracture (2) bone and for applying compression across the bone fracture, comprising: a cable element (3) having a first leg (4) adapted to be implanted longitudinally in the bone (B) and having a length to extend across the fracture (2) and leaving the bone the wire element has a second leg (9, 9 ') connected to the first leg by a bend (7 , 411) and having a size and shape so that the second leg extends rearwardly in longitudinal juxtaposition with the first leg in a separate vertically thereof to overlie a superficial surface of the bone such distance force longitudinal pull applied to the second leg will produce tension in the wire element and apply compression across the fracture, and means (15, 16) are associated with said second leg for securing the second leg to the bone in order to maintain traction developed in the wire element, characterized in that said first and second legs have different cross-sectional areas.
